TIEBOUT SORTING → NETWORK STATE The mathematical basis for the network state is Tiebout sorting. In 1956, Charles Tiebout proved that if you had: (a) low-cost mobility (b) frictionless discovery (c) no inter-jurisdictional spillover effects, and (d) many possible jurisdictions

Yes. Also, after the dollar ends, I think ~50% of Westerners will become Bitcoin Maximalists (and blame the collapse on the Fed and centralized power) while ~50% may turn to Chinese Communists (and blame the collapse on BTC and decentralized currency). https://t.co/epy173ES1d
@balajis Good thread. The only thing I’d add to the following like is that it’s spread even more disproportionately among non-asset owners who have no hedge of capital appreciation as a partial offset to asset inflation. The implications are enormous for this group of newer workforce

What Kobyakov is accusing Washington of is basically a digital era remake of something the U.S. has done before, shrink its debt burden by changing the rules of the system. In the 1930s, Roosevelt devalued the dollar against gold and instantly cut the real value of U.S. debt. In
Russia just accused the US of using crypto to wipe out its $35T debt. Putin’s adviser Kobyakov says Washington will shove debt into stablecoins, devalue it, and reset the system. https://t.co/IwmiLYp2ic

Just found out that the SF Bay Area almost got a nuclear plant, but activists killed it ~6 years into construction in 1964 (Bodega Bay Nuclear Power Plant) SF would have been running on 100% clean electricity in the 1970s (except for a few peaker plants) if this didn't happen.

Putin advisor: US will use gold and crypto to wipe out its $35 trillion debt. He's about 85 years late: FDR already wiped it out by severing the link with gold. It's just numbers in a spreadsheet. And the only thing keeping it "real" is the Fed's reluctance to wipe out

The bitcoin mining industry has entered a new phase in its cyclical arms race. Manufacturers, not operators, are now carrying the burden of excess inventory.

There's another deep similarity between Soviet Communism and American Keynesianism. In the final analysis, both economies were ultimately coercive. The Soviets were obviously so, because they were all about forcible redistribution and central planning by Gosplan. Meanwhile the

This is a gross misallocation of capital. $ASML has no business "boosting European tech sovereignty". Leave that to EU bureaucrats. If this cash is burning a whole in ASML's coffers, return it to shareholders instead.

.@DavidSacks has been the key influence in pulling Silicon Valley back to the center, focusing the administration on AI with the AI action plan, rescinding the diffusion rule and working to end censorship and bias in tech.
Only President Trump could convene so many tech leaders in one place. We had a constructive conversation about how to grow the economy with new infrastructure spending. This will benefit not only software companies but manufacturing, energy, construction, the trades and workers.

There are simply too many former bankers and MBAs in venture capital from the ZIRP era Many have literally zero company building experience, technical chops or founder empathy A couple are decent humans but still just razer thin wrappers on excel sheets and SF poker nights

So far all the signs appear to be that people who are good at their field or craft are able to take advantage of AI the most. Those who can write the precise specs for a coding agent to go off and do work, or craft the clearest prompts for various knowledge worker tasks, are

Still such a crazy feeling to have an idea. Go to an AI agent to have it work on the idea. Go do something else. And come back and play with a prototype of that idea. Only when you know how slow everything used to be is it obvious how much faster everything will become.

The R-7 / Soyuz rocket family was so prolific that the US still hasn’t caught up with Russia’s total number of launches. That’s bound to change though with SpaceX now accounting for over half of all orbital launches in 2025ytd.

Hardware Memory is the choke point slowing down GenAI. ~2018–2022, transformer model size grew ~410× every 2 years, while memory per accelerator grew only about 2× every 2 years. And that mismatch shoves us into a “memory-limited” world. The "memory wall" is creating all the

Our boldest photography project yet! From Above & Below, a mission to photograph the same subjects from Earth and space with National Geographic photographer, Babak Tafreshi. @BabakTafreshi traveled the world while I orbited around it, and together we created this perspective.
