In light of dramatic increases in local COVID cases and hospitalizations, including among children, the School Board has voted to require masks for students for the first two weeks of school. The Board will reevaluate at its August 17 meeting.
To protect students, staff and the community and to keep our schools open, the School Board has voted unanimously to extend the district's mask mandate for eight weeks.
The School Board has voted to opt out of the School Guardian program passed by the Florida Legislature. Only law enforcement officers can have firearms on campus.

Based on a weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service at 3:16 pm today, Alachua County Public Schools and offices will closed Jan 3 & 4. They'll reopen Fri, Jan 5. Makeup days have tentatively been scheduled for June 4 & 5.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced that all schools will remain closed and distance learning will continue for the rest of the 2019-20 school year.
ACPS is the first school district in the nation to receive a grant from the federal government to make up for funding withheld over mask requirements in schools.
The district has been awarded an initial sum of $148,000.
Beginning today and continuing through Friday, 1,700 air purifiers are being delivered to every classroom across the district.
These units are designed specifically for classroom spaces. They circulate the air 3 to 5 times each hour and remove 99.97% of airborne particulates.

This is incorrect. The book is available to students in one high school. It is available to teachers only (in a private section of the library) at two elementary schools (indicated by P at the front of the code).
Next week packaged meals will be given out to children 0-18 at EHS, BHS, GHS, NHS, SFHS & HHS. The schedule is 3/16, 8-9 am: packaged breakfast; 3/16, 11-1: packaged lunch and breakfast for the next morning; 3/17-19, 11-1: packaged lunch and breakfast for the next morning.

There is now a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Alachua County, but according to the Health Department the circumstances are very unique and the risk is low, so there is no plan to close schools at this time.
Some positive news--our Food and Nutrition Services Department distributed more than 10,000 meals to children today, including lunch and breakfast for tomorrow. Kudos to our wonderful FNS staff & the bus drivers who helped deliver the meals to bus stops in high needs areas!
