Wheat coming off nicely at the @GRDCNorth @CSIRO farming systems site at Iandra near Greenethorpe - now in its 8th year - wheat yields in the range 5.8-8.0 t/ha - remarkable for the season but cool conditions and good stored water and timely rain won the day.

This week we finished the 2025 GRDC Southern NSW Farming Systems project field walks looking at eight years of small plot research and how it upscales into real world scenarios – #diversefarms. Topics included diverse rotations, nitrogen legacy, lime incorporation, rainfall

Another brilliant field day with the GRDC funded Southern NSW Farming Systems project team at Greenethorpe and Thuddungra. It was the last of a series of days this year that looked at eight years of farming systems small plot research and how it upscales into real world scenarios

People have no idea how close we should actually be to starving to death. A farm in 1920 fed ~10 people, a farm today feeds ~180 people. Innovation from a small group made this happen.

Humanity has cleared a land mass the size of Asia plus Europe to grow food, and our food system generates a third of our carbon emissions. By 2050, we’re going to need a lot more calories to fill...

Excellent morning at the NSWDPI Condobolin Field Day. Great information from the past 7 years @GRDC Farming System’s exp’t. Thanks @MathewDunn19, Mehrshad, Daryl & @dansweenss. Higher yields from early sown canola after pulses & 2025 = >3T/ha. Chickpeas & fabas looking good.

Impressive to see such consistent growth in faba beans across a 1200ha block. Limed & Horsched Tiger in 2020 & now settled in a 4 year FbCWW/B rotation. Long term continuous crop block only getting better with time especially pulses in the mix. @EnglefieldPlai1

20/20 Project Update. So how did Management Intensity alter grain yield in wheat, and how did the system respond when biologicals or an EEF were added to the system? Interesting results for 2025 and I hope your ROI was better than ours on dryland!

@tony_swan64 @CSIRO @theGRDC @AgroJAK @Laura_Goward @MathewDunn19 @SusieSprague17 @Zakeelcassim @PulsePathSWSK Chickpea flax it's maybe going to mature before a frost? If I have to sacrifice a few acres of chickpeas to convince the clouds to drop rain in July and August it was worth it.

Great to catch up with Bernard Hart still keeping track of research into sustainable farming at CSU/NSWDPIRD farming systems field day. Some of my first field experiments on canola as a break crop happened on Harts farm back in 1990 and he and his families contribution goes on!
