Things we hope to add next time include: more live demos, fully audio described content, BSL/ASL interpretation, and generally improving our online platform experience.

Overall I’m really proud of the event as a starting point. We will take the lessons we learnt and do more to make sure our events are as inclusive as possible.

Finally we summarised some of our audience questions for our industry q&a. The questions were sent verbatim to the panel beforehand but summarised to allow more time for discussion. We should have explained this better at the time and did not intend to misrepresent anyone.

Also some products we talked about and shared aren’t accessible to everyone. Including things mentioned by our speakers that are used in accessible music making. We should have acknowledged this ahead of the product feature and explained the level of accessibility for each.

We also included some videos from our sponsors without audio description, audio description was not an after thought but we were limited by two things. 1. Time to create bespoke material 2. Budget to get pre-recorded sponsor content professionally described.

While we ensured our live platform was accessible on the day but we made a mistake in not redirecting folks from the website to the live stream which made it hard to find for people coming in via our website. We are sorry and we will fix it for the next event.

Logistically things worked, I’m (@RedRoxProjects) a seasoned events organiser but this was my first online Event. We faced some small challenges but technical difficulties were kept to a minimum. There are some areas for improvement though…

On our industry panel we learnt that companies are growing their awareness of accessibility, and investing in getting started and getting it right.

We had almost 600 people watching the event. There’s definitely space for more events like these and audio companies need to take note.
