Today marks 1 year with
@PGSportsNow
. I couldn't have imagined all the wonderful stories I got to tell from NAIA basketball to the VB Final Four and everything in between.
Thanks to all who have supported me on my journey.
Here's a list of my top 5 stories in celebration:
Hey NCAA, can we please call on student writers in the press conferences?
@LUPhoenixSports
was the only organization to cover every single
#Loyola
game this season. I had my hand raised the entire time and didn't get called on once. TIA.
The Creighton Prep High School band is filling in for
#Duquesne
’s band today.
These high school students were here on Thursday too. They’re decked out in Dukes’ gear, learned the fight song and the chants.
Also definitely meant to rank Mississippi State NOT Mississippi Valley State. Must’ve clicked on the wrong one. I submitted pretty late last night after the craziness that was Wisconsin-Iowa. My bad. Imagine it says Mississippi State.
This is the loudest I've ever heard the Kohl Center. Louder than when Chucky Hepburn banked the 3-pointer against Purdue. Absolutely insane. Wisconsin fans love volleyball.
✨Personal News✨
I'm heading to Madison!
I've accepted a position at
@WiStateJournal
as their newest University of Wisconsin men's basketball beat writer.
I'm super excited to get up there, work with a group of very talented individuals and begin my professional career!
Last thing from me tonight: Chucky Hepburn, crutches and all, waited for Brad Davison before leaving the court.
Do with you want with that info but I think it says a lot about Chucky.
Fell asleep before I got the email as I have an early flight but here’s the Maui Invitational All-Tournament team:
Fabian White Jr., Houston
Dan Fotu, St. Marys
Logan Johnson, St. Mary’s
Johnny Davis, Wisconsin
Tyler Wahl, Wisconsin
Hey all, officially on the job market again. I was informed this morning that I am no longer an employee at the Wisconsin State Journal.
If anyone knows of any jobs please holler.
I also have to shout out Keith Dambrot (
@CoachDambrot
).
He let all NINE of the
#Duquesne
media members who traveled attend the watch party. He also ensured we were fed, offering some of the food set out for the team.
A pair of very kind gestures that did not go unnoticed.
Wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your support on my first season covering Wisconsin basketball. It was an insane experience and I can’t wait to do it again next season!
Members of the
#Wisconsin
football team joined the dance team for a timeout performance. Don’t worry I videoed it for you all who couldn’t see it.
They even did a pirouette!!
Got a tip that Porter Moser told the players he won’t be leaving after this season and will be back for 2021-22.
Working on getting it confirmed but huge news for
#Loyola
Men’s basketball.
#MVCHoops
Freshman
@DimicheleJake
sat down to soak in the moment. He went from having no Division I offers, to accepting a walk on spot at
#Duquesne
, becoming a starter and now is going to the Big Dance.
Often times I’m the only woman on press row. Sometimes it’s isolating and other times it’s empowering. No matter which one it is — I’m so grateful for the opportunity to pursue my passion of sports journalism. Thanks to all who have supported me along the way.
#NGWSD
One year ago today, I was let go from my job. Today, I'm covering the NCAA volleyball Final Four.
It's crazy to think about how much things can change in just 365 days.
A fight broke out on the court starting with Juwan Howard hitting Joe Krabbenhoft. Jahcobi Neath took a couple punches. Tyler Wahl pulls his teammates away.
I don't typically tweet out quotes but this one....
"I don't think any of them are great players, but they're good at Wisconsin's scheme." -Houston coach Kelvin Sampson on UW's big men.
After four long years of working at the Loyola Phoenix I have officially made my exit. It was in my own best interest to turn in my resignation letter following the completion of the men’s basketball season.
Omg I just wanted to thank you all for the support on this. I started driving back to Chicago shortly after I sent this and just stopped for gas. Wow thank you all for your support ☺️

I talked to Bruno Skokna yesterday for an article I'm working on. I asked him who would win today and he said:
"If Loyola wins, there's not reason they can't win the whole championship."
Okay we have a THREE WAY TIE FOR FIRST PLACE:
-Christina Aguilera’s dog
-Donny Osmond’s youngest grand child
-the kid in mermaid leggings and ballet slippers
It was an absolute pleasure getting to cover
#Duquesne
’s historic March Madness run.
Thank you for the outpouring support from everyone who followed — especially the fans. I was amazed by how the Dukes community completely embraced me and my coverage.
Former
#Pitt
football player Damar Hamlin presented women’s soccer goalkeeper Ellie Breech the Heartsaver Hero Award. Her father went into cardiac arrest back in December and Breech used CPR to save his life.
Update: I've heard back from the NCAA.
"I assure you we will make every effort to ensure our press conference moderator calls upon you if your hand is raised Saturday night following Loyola’s game against Oregon State." -NCAA
So thanks for your support there and

“If they want to [stay at Loyola] it’s a great thing. If they don’t it’s a great thing. They have to do what’s best for them.” -Porter Moser on the seniors potentially returning to
#Loyola
Jaland Lowe just walked into the Fitzgerald Field House. His jaw dropped as he looked around...could've been something else but it looked like he was in awe by the amount of fans here for a
#Pitt
volleyball spring game.
Jake DiMichele left OLSH with no Division I offers, went to prep school and chose to walk-on at
#Duquesne
rather than accepting a scholarship elsewhere. Now, he's in the starting lineup and a key contributor for the
#Dukes
.
Read about his journey here:
Covering the Pitt/Syracuse game from the
@OaklandZoo
today. I’m an honorary student today and will be in the thick of it. Follow along for live updates from the Zoo.
I have filed my story on the
@OaklandZoo
. It won’t be published until tomorrow morning, but I wanted to take the opportunity to thank the Zoo for this experience.
It was such a cool day to be a part of and it’s something I’ll never forget.
Honoring the six seniors in their last regular season game for
#Loyola
. Cameron Krutwig, Lucas Williamson, Aher Uguak, Tate Hall, Keith Clemons and Jake Baughman.
#MVCHoops
“The expression on Jacob's face is just pure joy,” Mike Hutson said. “That's the difference. When you're in your comfort zone — which he is when he plays — that's Jacob.”
This is the quote and story that gave me chills.
Happy National Girls and Women in Sports Day! I’m so grateful for the amazing women I’ve had the privilege of meeting and working with during my career.
It hasn’t been an easy journey but I can’t imagine doing anything else.
#NGWSD23
This is pretty lame but I’m really proud of myself and wanted to share:
In May my Dad took out a loan for me so I could buy a car. I didn’t have enough credit at the time.
Today, I took over the loan and am the sole owner of my little Ford Focus
I feel so grown up
#Pitt
men’s basketball is having a press conference tomorrow for a “men’s basketball announcement.”
Jeff Capel and a select player will be available.
What do we think it is? Wrong answers only.
Wanted to thank you all again for your support yesterday and continuing on.
I've emailed the NCAA's head of credentialing and asked him to fix this. As a student journalist my experience has fallen short and that's not okay.
I'm not sure what they put in Chris Vogt's cereal this morning but he's playing very well. Four rebounds, 3 of which are offensive, and a block. He's kept the Badgers in the mix a lot tonight.
Chucky Hepburn leads UW with 10 points.
The
@OaklandZoo
was a huge part of the win Saturday and the season as a whole. From 11:00 a.m. to the final high five, here’s what Saturday’s game looked like from the perspective of the Zoo.
Per a UW spokesperson: "Wednesday's game will be played as scheduled unless notified otherwise."
So game on for
#Wisconsin
and Illinois State (as of now)
Happy National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
Beyond proud of myself and the other women in sports who are constantly knocking down barriers. Unbelievably grateful for all who have helped me get to where I am today.
Reece and Holden Heller are new to Pitt wrestling this season, but with judo influences they're bringing in some "funky" performances on the mat and have helped the Panthers claim its first ACC dual title since 2014.
I've been to quite a few games at the Pete since I moved here in January. Small sample size, but I can confidently say the only time I've heard it louder was Pitt MBB v. Syracuse.
Panther fans are absolutely losing their minds today and it's fantastic.
#Pitt
volleyball is one of the top four teams in the NCAA Tournament, earning it a No. 1 seed.
The Panthers will host this upcoming weekend. If they win the first and second rounds they'll get to host regionals.
The biggest college basketball fan I know (momma Schnable) is going to her first game at the Kohl Center tonight.
She was at all the games in Vegas but this will be her first one in Madison. And it’s a sold out top-15 matchup!
Happy I have a job that my mom and I can bond over
The last time
#Loyola
played in the championships at
#ArchMadness
@KyleBrownLUC
and I were baby freshman.
3 years later we’re here in St. Louis covering a ranked Loyola as seniors and co-sports editors. What a journey it’s been.
Please remember that I'm not just a journalist and have a life outside of my job. I'm allowed to use my social media platform for myself and I'm going to continue to tweet about things that interest me.
Jacobsen asked Porter a question. Before he could ask it Porter said “Yes, it was me who submitted the NBA draft papers for AJ.” Jacobsen came back with “I heard if AJ goes Krutwig goes too.” Lots of laughs in the room.
Wow. A year really flew by.
Today is my one year anniversary at the Wisconsin State Journal.
I never imagined in college that I'd have to opportunity to cover a Power 5 team straight out of school. Nevertheless one that would end up winning the Big Ten regular season.
I headed down to Fort Wayne and Albion to learn more about UW men’s basketball incoming freshman
@CEssegian
Connor set a goal to play in the Big Ten when he was in 7th grade. He moves up to Madison in just a few weeks.
