Jeffery Sobal, a sociologist whose work focused on the social causes and consequences of obesity, eating relationships and food systems, died Aug. 3. He was 74.

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of longtime ASFS member Jeff Sobal. Jeff was a Cornell nutrition department sociologist, an ardent supporter of food studies research, and a kind friend to all. Read his obituary here:

The @asfs_org / @afhvs_org annual meetings are quite special. Where else can you learn about farmers in the middle, and then have the chance to taste climate change through wine (along with a social network analysis). So thankful for this community! And, I got to see my book!
