New pub! Queer Asian American men face racism in the gay community, but what helps us resist it? This qualitative study used a strengths-based approach and interviewed 20 QAAM who endorsed loving themselves regardless of what white men think of them. https://t.co/7IsJgJkZlo

I'm so excited that this is out into the world. We put so much of our hearts into this work, and I think there's something for everyone to take from it, even if you aren't actively training an Indigenous student. Thank you to @kawennison for being our brave leader in this work

There are multiple paths to success as a postdoc. From my experience: 1. Seek out good mentors 2. Find collaborators you love working with 3. Create community outside of work 4. Give back; do what's meaningful 5. Network within AND beyond academia 6. Be kind—to yourself & others

"When we practice empathy with our teens, we literally pay it forward for the next generation." Thanks to Dr. Katie Hurley @katiefhurley @CNN for this great coverage of our work! @uvavpn

When parents have empathy for their teenagers, those children show empathy for their friends — and even empathy for their own kids later on.

We learn who we are, how to treat people, and how we expect others will treat us from our close relationships! Being supportive to your teen doesn't just help them in the moment - it may also help them support many others (their friends! their children!) for years to come!
🚨It's here! Our study tracking empathy across 3 generations over 25 years is out in Child Development @SRCDtweets🎉 We observed moms' empathy for teens & teens' empathy for their friends at 13-19, +assessed parenting 10y later. Here's what we found:🧵1/4 https://t.co/KITxFb2f8D

For that, I am also grateful to myself for pushing on the hard days and on other hard days, doing everything but grad school. I'm glad I kept it real silly from 2018 to 2024 even when the world was not very silly at all. Graduation is next week, and internship ends in June. 4/5

This would not have been possible without therapy (with me as the therapist & the client), medication, and my community. Defending my dissertation was always the plan, but it was NOT a guarantee. There were many times I felt unable to finish, especially in the last stretch. 3/5

Like I once heard, there are no special prizes for doing a dissertation or PhD alone. Thank goodness - because I surely did not. This milestone would not have been possible without my friends, family, colleagues, mentors, and the Black students in my study. 2/5

Three weeks ago, I defended my dissertation examining Black college students' perceptions of and experiences with college counseling centers. This was the culmination of YEARS of working on study design, data collection, analysis, and the biggest beast: writing it all up. 1/5
