He was a tireless advocate for small and medium sized banks and a key contributor to the industry through his leadership on the CBA Board and the Domestic Bank Executive Committee. Our heartfelt condolences go to his family and colleagues at @EQBank. He will be missed.

I had the good fortune to work with him as a volunteer on the steering committee for the Northwind Institute’s Financial Services Forum.

Needless to say, I learned a great deal from him on challenger banks. Andrew was a man with seemingly endless energy and ideas, passionate in debate and always—always—with a twinkle in his eye and a ready laugh.

Andrew and I first met in 2021. I had just joined the CBA, and he had been serving on its Board since 2016. He made an indelible impression on me about the importance of advocating for small and medium sized banks to help foster greater competition and innovation.

“A little louder this time, for the crowd at the back!” This bears to be repeated today. To be clear, US banks can and do operate in Canada. Most are even members of the CBA.
Canada has a strong and competitive banking sector comprised of both domestic and foreign banks. There are 16 U.S. based bank subsidiaries and branches with around C$113 billion in assets currently operating in Canada. These banks specialize in a range of financial services,

Great to see and connect with members of the @CanadaUSTrade today in Washington and attend Premier @Fordnation networking reception. It is key to continue to support Canadian businesses while advocating for our long-standing trade relationship with the U.S.

Philly is kicking the ever living shit out of the Chiefs. But I’m old enough to remember Tom Brady throwing a pick 6 in the 28-3 game. We’ll see if Paddy is Tom or not.

#DYK that 75 years today, the first credit card – or charge card – was invented? We have gone a long way since the first Diners Club card, but credit cards are now used by 9 out of 10 adult Canadians, with 100 million cards in circulation in the country.

It's customary to make #NewYearsResolutions, but I prefer a holistic approach for lasting habits. Start small, like 5 minutes of exercise daily. Set clear actions, not vague goals. Celebrate small victories and enjoy the moment. Have you made any resolutions for 2025?
