💡 Hormonal status can influence emotion and fear processing. 💡 PMS symptoms can serve as a marker of sensitivity for menstrual cycle effects on emotion processing. 💡 IUD use appear to have differential effects on emotion processing compared to OCs. 4/4

😨 For fear acquisition and extinction (recall), we found less danger/safety cue differentiation in IUD users and in the mid-luteal phase (more fear generalization). Higher PMS symptom reports meant higher fear throughout the cycle and experiment. https://t.co/vYx9HGxef1 3/4

🤔 Patterns of EEG signals during emotion reactivity&regulation indicated better regulation capacity in the mid-follicular phase, but reduced emotion regulation in the mid-luteal phase (specifically with higher PMS symptoms) and in OC users. https://t.co/9SZAtitf86 2/4

Belated post, but we have 2 new papers out! 📑 We used a cross-over design to study emotion regulation & fear learning during menstrual cycle phases, OC use, and IUD use. A short 🧵1/4

My debut as a Science Writer for a company I'm a big fan of: @clue. 🩸 We wrote about the importance of considering the menstrual cycle when talking and studying mental health, and offer some basics on the amazing science that's out there! 🧘🏼‍♀️

Thank you @Nature for spreading the good word on the @UofCalifornia Ann S. Bowers Womens Brain Health Initiative. Change starts now. cc: @AnnaNowo Only 0.5% of neuroscience studies look at women’s health. Here’s how to change that

This year’s economic sciences laureate Claudia Goldin showed that female participation in the labour market did not have an upward trend over a 200 year period, but instead forms a U-shaped curve. The participation of married women decreased with the transition from an agrarian
