ADCU condemns the violence visited upon a Deliveroo rider on the Shankill Road in Belfast today. The rider was brutally assaulted & the bike was stolen. The root cause is the exploitation & abandonment of workers by Deliveroo & failure of govt to enforce & protect respectively.
BREAKING: ADCU victorious over Uber in their High Court attack on Supreme Court ruling forcing an industry wide shake up. Operators must now contract directly with passengers, drivers can no longer do so. Details to follow. 1/
Uber CEO
@dkhos
is paid £37 million pa not including bonus. That's an hourly rate of £21,023 PER HOUR! But Dara doesn't want to pay UK Uber workers the minimum wage for all working time & refuses to even increase pay to cover 34% fuel inflation.
24 HOUR UBER STRIKE FROM MIDNIGHT
"The fight dock workers fought a 100 years ago is the same fight for gig workers today. Every gig worker must join a union and fight back today."
@jeremycorbyn
Please support our fundraiser for the

rider attacked on the Shankill Rd, Belfast last week. We aim to replace the bike, to organise, & to work w local communities to stand up for gig workers who suffer employer exploitation, racism & assault.

In the six years that we fought Uber from the Employment Tribunal to the Supreme Court, one thing has remained a constant:
@TfLTPH
has always had their foot on the scale siding with Uber against workers. That is as true today as ever it was.
For years, TfL & the
@MayorofLondon
have spun us the line that they don't have the power to curb Uber. But if we win this High Court case it will turn out that they not only had the power all along but also an obligation & a duty that they've failed to discharge. Rather be us.
You have to admire the moxie of Uber's PR team. They launch relentless legal attacks on the worker rights of drivers for years but each time when they lose in court they express gratitude for the 'clarity' they gained. It's as if it was all just a voyage of intellectual discovery
BREAKING:
ADCU calls on
@MayorofLondon
to give Uber a strict ultimatum in
@TfLTPH
re-licensing decision due this month: EITHER respect Uber driver worker rights and immediately comply with the law to pay min wage & holiday pay for all working time OR leave London for good.
EXPLOSIVE REVELATION LEAKED:
@Uber
is collaborating w
@metpoliceuk
to provide "intelligence" about our trade union & our planned demonstration against Uber's own illegal work practices! This is outrageous interference w our protest rights & we'll be lodging urgent complaints.
ADCU mobilize for national march for Palestine on Saturday
▶️All members asked to join the national march
▶️Mass log off - Uber, Bolt, FreeNow, Deliveroo, Just Eat etc.
▶️All private hire & food delivery operators instructed to suspend dispatch allocation 12-2pm

@PSCupdates
This level of triumphalism of City Hall in their legal victory over a bunch of hard working cabbies is a bad look. Some empathy & a conciliatory tone would have been more appropriate. Instead, here we have Labour politicians celebrating their defeat of workers. Sad.
One of the
#UberFiles
revelations was the extent Uber would go to trade info on drivers with tax authorities in return for taking the heat off their own tax evasion. Well here we are in 2022, Uber owes HMRC £3bn in back VAT & what are they busy doing? Grassing drivers to HMRC!
BREAKING:
Tonight the ADCU National Executive Committee voted to stage a national 24 hour strike against Uber on September 28th from 00:01.
Drivers - do not log on.
Passengers - do not cross the digital picket line & do not book the service on September 28th.
#UberStrike
Tonight the ADCU has written to
@dkhos
& Ron Sugar, as CEO and Chair of the board of
@Uber
, to demand the immediate sacking of
@pierre_dimitri
in the wake of the
@ICIJorg
#UberFiles
scandal. Gore-Coty presents a serious risk to the safety of millions of vulnerable workers.
BREAKING: ADCU demands
@MayorofLondon
act to protect Uber drivers. Co-lead claimants dismayed by Uber's doubling down on misclassification & campaign of misinformation to drivers in open defiance of Supreme Court ruling. SC 'not convinced' Uber compliant w

@RMTunion
@PavlosNG8
Uber drivers are on contracts worse than zero hours because not only do we do we not know if we'll get work, we also don't know how much we'll get paid for it. Yet, we support the
@RMTunion
strike so much we were inspired to stage one our own at the same time!
Uber continues to be a bad actor along with most London PH operators. Two months after the High Court ruling against them and in our favour, they still have not complied &
@TfLTPH
has not enforced. We want to know why not?
Our statement of solidarity with Yan XIONG (熊焰). We call on the
@ChineseEmbinUK
to assure his safety, release and freedom of association without delay.

We're extending our industrial action to UBER!
June 22nd, 24 hour strike. Demo at Aldgate Tower 11am.
All off, all out!
Drivers are suffering the worst of living crisis in a generation, time for militant action now!
BREAK. ADCU statement: trade unions and Labour must oppose government attack on the right to protest. Time to resist the government's Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill before parliament tomorrow. Write to your MP now!
Live shot of Uber crisis containment management team trying to convince drivers that UK Supreme Court worker rights judgement only applies to the 22 original claimants.
As Uber drivers prepare for a national strike on Tuesday with protests in 8 cities, it is completely inappropriate for the Labour party to allow Uber access to the conference, for
@theFabians
to give Uber a platform and for
@YvetteCooper
&
@StephenTimms
to share that platform. 2/
TfL claiming that there are a galaxy of different operators with different contractual arrangements that need to be accommodated by regulation. Our POV: no sympathy, this is a regulatory dogs dinner of TfL's own making.
BREAKING: Uber ordered to pay €584,000 in penalties to drivers for FAILURE TO COMPLY with Amsterdam Court of Appeal ruling in the case of robo-fired ADCU members.
As Parliament considers MP second jobs we need to look at things close to home. Met Police & TfL staff should be banned from working for any private hire operator for 10 years after termination. The raft of recent senior appointments at Uber from TfL & the Met is very troubling
Uber's behaviour is destroying the market for everyone. Passengers are being cancelled or are not being picked up. Drivers offered work below cost of carriage. The market is crying out for an increase in price but Uber fails to act.
@TfLTPH
must step in to protect drivers & pax
The
#UberStrike
is biting, Uber desperately trying to break the strike by offering drivers 'surge fares'. But drivers are holding firm.
Uber Strike continues until midnight.
High drama: Judge asks Uber if they have changed their contract model since the Supreme Court?? Answer: "ummm, well that is not relevant here!" 😂
ADCU QC on his feet to straighten this matter out for the bench. Uber changed nothing. Misclassification carries on unabated!
Decoding the new Uber UK Driver Contract. A🧵
1. Uber only now recognises what the Employment Tribunal ruled in 2015, Uber London Limited is the employer not Uber BV Netherlands.
Kolvin throwing TfL under the bus. Don't take FreeNow & Uber's license because
@TfLTPH
never told them they were doing anything wrong! --- see how this works?
Big dilemma for Uber drivers on Monday. Demand will be through the roof but Uber will keep surge pricing off for political/PR reasons. So, Uber drivers will end up transporting people below the cost of carriage yet again. Another reason
@TfLTPH
need to regulate PH fares.
ADCU statement on
@SadiqKhan
's decision to license Uber as 'fit and proper' despite the failure of the Silicon Valley/Amsterdam based company to comply with the Supreme Court ruling on worker rights.
@FrankRGardner
Minicab drivers face license revocation & a criminal record if they fail to carry disabled passengers. Airlines literally abandon disabled passengers on powered down planes. How about the
@UK_CAA
stepping in & suspending air operator certificates of airlines and fining airports?
📢📢📢📢
High Court decision to be hand down on Monday to determine if we have been successful or not in resisting
@Uber
&
@FreeNow_UK
legal bid to preserve its dodgy contract model which exploits workers & cheats consumers.
The stakes could not be higher!

Our strike is costing Uber millions of £££s today. It's after 5pm and Uber is still offering surge pay to drivers and discounted fares to passengers at the same time. Desperate, desperate stuff! Strike til midnight.

ADCU proud to march for freedom for Palestine today. We joined 800,000 others calling for justice for the people of Palestine.
We utterly condemn the desecration of the Cenotaph by violent, far right thugs especially on Armistice day.
No pasaran!
Full house! Great calls to action from
@jeremycorbyn
,
@Shut_downAmazon
, Darren & Connor from GMB. "If we don't get it, shut down Uber and shut down Amazon."
We are extremely saddened and disturbed to learn of the murder of a private hire driver in London last night. We have long warned
@TfLTPH
&
@MPSRTPC
about the unacceptable level of assault & abuse of drivers & failure of licensed operators to act. We now need root & branch reform
Brilliant launch today of Leicester ADCU branch, organised by our inspiring Leicester members. Fantastic show of solidarity from our London, Birmingham and Nottingham comrades and guest speaker
@Unjum_Mirza
. 2023 has just began but we’re already hitting the ground hard.
Despite our win at the Supreme Court Uber continues to litigate an order by courts that it must pay drivers waiting time. Uber is therefore effectively cheating drivers out of pay for 40% of their working time. 3/
New Uber driver pay rates are a disgrace. Why do Manchester drivers earn almost half of what Brighton drivers do? Why are London drivers, with the highest operating costs in the UK, paid just £1.16 per mile when Uber paid £1.37 in 2014? Where is the inflation adjustment?
BREAK: Huge victory. Another Uber robo-firing case where
@TfLTPH
unreasonably revoked member license based on bad Uber surveillance data has license restored. Blistering criticism of Uber & TfL. JOIN ADCU today - a real fighting & WINNING union for drivers & couriers.
10:15pm. We're at Kingston Police station supporting a member viciously assaulted by
@FreeNow_UK
passengers tonight. There was no way to make emergency contact w FreeNow or
@TfLTPH
managers, maybe they're tucked up in bed or out on the town. But ADCU is always on the job!
Update on our case against TfL & Uber at the Crown Court. Judge 'taken aback' by Uber's evidence. Orders that Uber hand over data, provide a competent witness & that TfL must now pay costs whether driver wins or loses. Case adjourned again until May 9th.
Yesterday while we were in supreme court fighting for worker rights. Uber announced a new dynamic fare structure. We have never seen such low fares averaging £1 and £2.
@TfLTPH
and
@MayorofLondon
when will you step in and end this brutal exploitation of workers.
#ukemplaw
ICYMI - we have been officially listed as a trade union. It's a great day for Uber drivers & Deliveroo riders. It's a truly terrible day for Uber & Deliveroo management who based their business strategies on the brutal exploitation of workers. Change now cos we're coming for you!
Uber say they've changed and that they wouldn't use street muscle and monied lobbying to get their way in the same way they did in 2014-2016. Really? You decide.
#UberFiles
Uber continues to indiscriminately fire thousands of drivers by automated means without right of appeal or often to even know the allegations against them. More info on the strike here.
We're in the High Court today representing the nation's minicab drivers against minicab bosses who are making a desperate effort to prop up their legally failed, brutal gig economy business model. 1/
PROTEST ANNOUNCEMENT:
@TfLTPH
has dismally failed to regulate the trade, fostered exploitation of tens of thousands of Uber drivers and compromised the safety of all. Enough is enough. Demand TfL acts NOW to END Uber's brutal exploitation of drivers & passengers. Join us Feb 7th.
Uber is simultaneously surging and discounting fares to break the strike. It isn't working. Rather than pay drivers properly, they are literally subsidising customer fares to break the strike. Uber management are intellectually and morally bankrupt.

"Its not the role of the police to make immigration checks on the streets in this way. Delivery workers are already very vulnerable and at risk of exposure to modern slavery. These workers are also subject to abuse and assault on a regular basis." 1/
If
@boltapp
thinks private hire drivers should accept pay at rates 50-65% lower than black cabs for the same work they are deluded. We won't stand for it.
People ask why we won't do a recognition agreement with Uber. This is Uber in the High Court on Tuesday attacking the Supreme Court ruling, trying to convince a judge that
@TfLTPH
regs permit them to transfer liability to workers. Yet
@Heidi_LDN
&
@MayorofLondon
do PR for Uber??

The government tells criminal barristers they're self employed, just like what Uber tells their drivers. The criminal barristers are going on indefinite strike. Solidarity!
