Why am I (We) so mad about Kenney and the UCP? My friends and family ask me this all the time. Reflection: its not just the atrocious cuts and wars on our health (among too many other things to list), its much more than that. Long thread, sorry! #abpoli #ableg

Anytime anyone claims that Smith used the Notwithstanding clause in a way that Peter Lougheed would have approved of… Feel free to share this from his 1998 paper that makes it clear that absolutely isn’t the case. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

My first Substack, Bill 2 does more than invoke the notwithstanding clause, It claims to remove all access To courts on any basis, retroactively. #ableg https://t.co/puj1hbzUR7

Remember when Danielle Smith condemned the "arrogance" of a government for passing laws in a matter of days? Now she's rammed through a law stripping teachers' charter rights in a single day. Seems the "democratic process" no longer matters to her now that she's in power #ableg

The ease with which Smith claims and then abandons principles truly is breathtaking. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

From the DM’s… Danielle Smith says she’s listening to teachers and Albertans. Anyways, this is apparently what listening looks like… #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

Today, I submitted 456,365 Albertans’ signatures to Elections Alberta, petitioning the Premier to do the right thing, avoid a divisive and economically harmful referendum, and allow MLAs to vote and reaffirm that Alberta’s future is in Canada.🇨🇦 Alberta is #ForeverCanadian

456,365 signatures! This is a historic mobilization of Albertans by @LukaszukAB and his team with #ForeverCanadian! This is more than a full quarter of votes cast in the last provincial election! More than needed by HALF!!! #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

Lougheed spelled out exactly what he believed needed to be fixed with the notwithstanding clause... - A legislative body with a super majority - The courts review before being invoked. - No "form" overrides. Smith's use is a violation of the first 2. /2

It will be interesting to see how overriding charter rights, forcing a rejected labour deal on workers, and threatening substantial fines will impact Alberta's plan to add and recruit 3,000 new teachers over the next 3 years.

No arbitration. No avenue for appeal. Nothing. Shut up and do as you’re told. I get the desire to end this and the frustrating state of affairs. But this almost demands further confrontation. Buckle up.

The move puts the Alberta government on a potential collision course with more than 350,000 workers in other provincial unions, which promised an “unprecedented response” if the government invoked the notwithstanding clause. https://t.co/hhJc7dgOhm

I think it's important for everyone in AB to remember that the UCP didn't have to use the NWC in their legislation. They also could have (and I'd argue should have) used binding arbitration rather than imposing a contract. Everyone should be asking themselves why

Funny how UCP supporters claim they love freedom and rights, but revel when their Dear Leader takes them away from others., and themselves. They cant comprehend the consequences of what she did today.. drank the koolaid, hard. Typical mouthbreathing UCP cultist behavior.
