We are so excited to share that our Tech Hub students have a guest speaker coming to share her experience as a CGI generalist! Cameron is an artist who graduated from @rrcpolytech Game Development Program and works at Chums Media Inc.

Students had two days to create a small game in teams, building team cooperation and communication skills. Artists created assets while programmers implemented game mechanics. Students engaged mentors with questions, gaining hands-on problem-solving skills in game development.

Exchange students explored the game development pipeline and formed teams for their first project. They engaged in team-building and brainstorming and learned to ideate a game by answering key questions. They ended the week by pitching their games and finalizing their ideas.

This week, the exchange students learned Unity and Blender basics, focusing on programming fundamentals like variables and if statements. They applied scripts to objects to observe code effects on games and explored Blender tools to create 3D props. @KyleahGretschmann@sujalNarioa

Avery Powell showcased @UnrealEngine's versatile applications in film and video game development. The students gained hands-on experience with the engine's interface and Quixel Bridge, unlocking the potential to create high-quality 3D environments.@NewMediaMB

Students from grades 6-8 attended a Cogmation workshop at Amber Trails school, led by Priyanka from @cogmation. The students explored the interface, familiarized themselves with the toolbar, and learned to program a basic function using the EV3 Model.

Avery Powell led @UnrealEngine workshops, demoing camera-tracked LED volume powered by the Vive Mars tracking system. Students acted and operated cameras, and others were lighting technicians. They were also introduced to virtual camera scouting on an iPad. @NewMediaMB

Students joined a week-long @breakbeatcode music-making workshop led by Genie Baffoe. They explored Hip-Hop elements and used the Earsketch platform to create beats with Python. The program ended with a dance performance to accompany their music. @TheRealHipHopEd @LOGICSAcademy

Our exchange program began with workshops led by Avery Powell at Studio Lab XR. Avery, a former Tech Hub student and intern at @StudioLabxR, is passionate about inspiring new students in game and film development through virtual production.

The Exchange program kicked off with students from all six high schools participating in icebreakers and collaborative activities like Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. They also explored 3D art, creating positive affirmation symbols using the Google Tilt brush application.

The final exhibition, hosted by @newmediamanitoba, welcomed students from RRC, parents, advisors and alumni who playtested the game "The Cave," created by students from all three Met schools. Congrats!

As the year ends, we are thankful for conducting 50 workshops co-taught with teachers in elementary and middle schools. Topics included AI for social justice, digital citizenship, Minecraft education, a sustainable tech future, hour of code, and tackling misinformation.
