This doesn’t even include private nonprofit associations and listings that keep charging at you with semi legal looking filing requirements and fees. Pretending that those are necessary to maintain status.

This is so unnecessary and stupid you’d imagine this exists most because of broken communication systems or because of some nonprofit paper pusher mafia lobbyists who want job security. This probably does more harm in bringing down small nonprofits than catching fraud.

You have to submit the same exact info to all these orgs. Different websites, different submission systems (many require post) and lots of silly fees.

The crazy part is all these entities individually have the power to destroy an org’s tax exempt status. And they harrass you with mailers to that effect. There is just no way to avoid falling behind and becoming delinquent and targeted by them.

California tries to make the life of nonprofits very hard with annual filing requirements. You have to file similar reports and pay fees for filing not just to the IRS, but to the Secretary of State, the Franchise Tax Board, and the Department of Justice all separately.

I wonder if @ZohranKMamdani speaks any Malayalam.

@NYUAbuDhabi Close races like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin threw everyone off, and I think this was more to do with the weakness in the study ( (limited to use of Twitter as a data source), more than something unexpected happening in these states.
