This is one of the worst ideas any mayoral candidate has ever come up with and would utterly wreck NYC’s middle class.

If we want to get really technical about it, wait until Andrew Cuomo's new social media team learns who was governor in 2019 when the last overhaul of NY rent stabilization laws was passed.

Mayoral candidates should probably know the difference between rent controlled and rent stabilized apartments, eh?.

Also Cuomo was in charge of the MTA for 10 years. Why didn’t he make transit more affordable when he had real power to do so?.

Ah yes the bus, famous for attracting a lot of rich New Yorkers. I’m a free bus skeptic but better to subsidize someone rich occasionally riding the bus than it is to implement some onerous means tested bus benefit.

.@andrewcuomo presenting his own affordability plan to counter Dem nominee Zohran Mamdani's. Says that he would offer a 100% subsidy for low-income subway and bus riders. Says Mamdani's free bus plan "subsidizes the rich."

Good news, but a maddening policy implementation process. And it seems that DOT is being forced to go through yet another round of public feedback even though CB6 and others have conducted numerous sessions on the busway. Just paint the damn thing.

"Build a new subway system" is what the governor is doing, which Andrew Cuomo thankfully no longer is. How does he plan to do this as mayor? This 3rd party sore loser campaign is getting attention only due to this candidate's name.

The 2nd Ave. subway is of course near and dear to my heart and infamous in NYC history, but the IBX is the most transformative NYC transit project in our lives. We should always demand more transit, but it's good to be excited for this one.

Here's the press release: 19 new stations with connections to 17 subway lines and a runtime of 32 minutes across 14 miles. This truly is a game-changer. No word on estimated completion date. We are probably looking at 2032ish.

Here's the latest IBX rendering as Gov. Hochul announces a major engineering and design milestone in moving this project forward. I like the New York blue cars. This station will be a transfer point between the IBX and the D and N trains, which you can see in the background.

Cuomo, criticizing Mamdani's proposals for being unrealistic, has his own unrealistic proposal that relies on everyone forgetting how badly he mismanaged the MTA for ten years. There's no need to debate the policy merits of this. It's hubristic, for attention, and a bad idea.

.@andrewcuomo repeats that he would propose the city takes over the management of the MTA, which is run by the state. "The MTA is too big to be able to manage the transit authority, effectively, let the mayor, manage the New York City Transit Authority," he says.
