Cross chain security needs to be taken as seriously as algorithmic stable coin risk. Here's what I've found on @cosmosibc @axelarcore @nomadxyz_ & @LayerZero_Labs . Been so much fun puzzling through this stuff and talking about it with nerds 🧬🔒.

Watch this space very closely. This is one of the most exciting things that will come to mainnet this year 🔥.

I'm excited for this not just because all these app-chains are finally going to get the attention they deserve, I'm excited because founders and devs can choose the best technology to solve their problem. The rate of innovation is going to skyrocket.

Now, with strong interoperability brought by @axelarcore, devs don't need to compromise. They can build the perfect tool for their problem, and sell it to anyone.

The issue is: devs like building where users are, and the EVM world has the most users, by a very large margin. Startups are forced to build in the most popular ecosystem, where the technology was perfect for last year, not next year.

Up until now, these specialised chains have been starved of users, and of business partnerships.

@dYdX is building a derivatives DEX which can handle the massive throughput of derivatives trading while maintaining speed and decentralisation. @sommfinance is a decentralised asset manager done right.

@StargazeZone is a chain built with only NFTs in mind. @cosmoshub allows smaller chains to derive security from its validator set. @KYVENetwork is a decentralised data lake and oracle service.

What this means is that the Cosmos ecosystem is a nerd's dreamland, with chains built to do very specific tasks very well. @osmosiszone is a DEX megalith, with backrunning MEV for the community built into the chain by @SkipProtocol. @akashnet_ runs decentralised compute.

I believe that in the long run, roll-apps and app-chains will look quite similar, but the reality is that right now, the @cosmos SDK is the best tool for building a new chain and customising the entire decentralised infra stack from the ground up.

In the Ethereum ecosystem, specialisation is achieved by building Layer 2s or Layer 3s (roll-apps), but in the Cosmos ecosystem, each new application gets is its own blockchain.

Other parts of the blockchain stack, like the consensus layer, virtual machine, validator set size cannot be innovated on either. The base infra is forced to support many types of apps, all the while maintaining decentralisation.

Ethereum and other generalised L1s provide the perfect sandboxes to test out decentralised apps, but they suffer from limited throughput as apps are forced to share resources.

App-chains are blockchains which run only one application. They are necessary because of two fundamental laws:. 1. Decentralisation limits resources ⛽️. 2. Becoming the best at something requires focusing all resources on it 🏎️.
