In my opinion this is mainly because America more than almost any other nation has a large middle class with property and capital, which makes it difficult to immediately dispossess us. It's hard to take rights away from a population that can largely provide for itself.
The American system is actually doing a remarkable job of preventing these lizards from doing everything they want to do, far better than any other nation the world round. I'm proud of it, even if it is cracking, straining, and nearly exhausted after all these years.
