So excited to share my essay in @washingtonpost @madebyhistory. Nixon-era, War on Drugs politics are to blame for the stigma and inaccessibility of methadone, one of the most effective medications for opioid addiction.

Our policies are making it harder to address the opioid crisis.

RT @MGlennEM: We’ve tried RFK Jr’s wellness farms before—they didn’t work for opioid addiction. You know what does? Methadone. https://t.co….

Kennedy wants to create "wellness drug rehabilitation farms." But the U.S. tried it before, and it didn't work.

The infamous “narco farms” of the 1940s-1970s could make a comeback if RFK is confirmed. Rebranded as “healing farms,” these facilities wouldn’t even accept people taking SSRIs or buprenorphine, let alone methadone.

The positions of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on vaccines and drug companies are well known. His approach to addiction has been far less scrutinized.

My latest in @Salon. GLP-1 agonists like semaglutide & tirzepatide curb cravings for MANY if not ALL substances for people with substance use disorders. The anecdotes are starting to become hard data. Providers should listen and rx these meds off-label.

Surprising research strongly suggests semaglutide can help fight substance use disorder. Why aren't we using it?

In my review of @BethLinker's history of posture for @thenation, I talk barre class, slouching over desktops in residency (we sit more than we stand), and whether our obsession with posture is a moral panic, pseudoscience, or something in between.

A recent history of the 20th-century movement to fix slouching questions the moral and political dimensions of addressing bad backs over wider public health concerns.

My latest with @DrSarahWakeman in @sciam. “Rehabs” work for some. But many exploit patients financially and are rooted in outdated behavior modification techniques. We need #medsnotbeds for patients needing addiction treatment. A facility is not enough.
