Thanks for having me!
Saturday | 10:25 PT 80% of new vehicles sold in Canada in 2020 and 2021 were SUVs and pickup trucks - this threatens Cdn climate goals. We speak with Zoe Long from the Sustainable Transportation Action Research Team @SFU_START @Zoe_E_Long @WeAreHub @SFUPublicSquare

Rising SUV sales in Canada threaten climate goals. @SFU researchers @JonnAxsen & @Zoe_E_Long conducted a study to understand this tension and explore policy changes that could reduce emissions. @SFUResearch @ConversationCA @SFU_START Learn more ⬇️

New research from @JonnAxsen & @Zoe_E_Long explores what attracts drivers to SUVs and what might motivate SUV drivers to downsize. Spoiler: it's likely to take strong policy to change the trend towards SUVs Read the full article: https://t.co/eeSLozvLAS

There are so many challenges to reaching net-zero emissions! Technology scaling, coordination, and policy actions in all jurisdictions need to come together ASAP. Other experts and myself share our perspectives: https://t.co/Nc8ApZ73R3

If net-zero emissions is likely on a global scale, it's going to require ‘electrifying everything’. The reality and gravity of the climate crisis is continually setting in, especially as extreme...

Newly published research from my team explores how consumers view "automobility" - car culture and its impacts on individuals and society - and how automobility perceptions predict interest in shared, electric, and automated mobilities Great job @gauer_h on your first PhD study!
Novel research from @SFU_START explores the link between consumer engagement with aspects of automobility and consumer interest in shared, automated, and electric mobility. The paper - my first PhD study - was recently published in TRD:

Thanks for the chat! It's great to be part of the conversation and move the research beyond academia.
Research shows hundreds of thousands of Canadians would like to purchase electric vehicles, but can’t afford them, can’t find them, or don’t have access to charging stations. Will we fix this? @zoe_e_long, Research Manager for @SFU_START on @thebigstoryfpn

And we found some cognitive dissonance - SUV drivers absolutely care about the climate crisis and believe we need to take urgent action...but their SUVs aren't the problem. There's a disconnect between what 'drives' the problem and what SUV drivers think we should do about it.
We surveyed and talked to SUV drivers - they love their SUVs and aren't interested in downsizing. We find that their attraction to SUVs is about safety, space, and social status. Thanks @DavidSuzukiFDN for featuring our research! https://t.co/VS87q5KeDd

Thanks for the opportunity to be part of the dialogue! We need to keep talking about EVs as a piece of Canada's transition to a low carbon economy.
By 2035, the government wants all new cars sold to be zero-emission vehicles. Is such a goal even possible? Experts @Zoe_E_Long and @GPoelzer weigh in on the challenges ahead and Minister @s_guilbeault lays out the government’s ambitions. https://t.co/k1ojPgoioj

In our latest research, we examine public support for transport policies and find 3 groups of voters: those who are Universally Supportive, those who are Supportive Except Carbon Tax, and those who are Mostly Opposing of policies. https://t.co/Yym3Y1Bm8h

We recently released a report & research brief highlighting consumer thoughts on shared, automated, and electric vehicles. Will these techs help or hinder climate action? Combining with EVs - which consumers seem to like - will help.
Do Canadians want shared, automated, and electric transport innovations? About 1/3 say they want ride-hailing, a fully-automated vehicle, and an EV. There could be opportunity to leverage interest and combine innovations Check out our new research brief: https://t.co/icNZXiPVmP
