Some non-Belichick news: NESN has decided to eliminate the Patriots beat writer position, so I am now a free agent.
Could not have asked for a better experience in my 11 years at the company and eight seasons on the Patriots beat. Huge thanks to everyone who made that possible,…
An emotional Jakobi Meyers said he was “trying to do too much and trying to be a hero” on the final play. Said he knew the score was tied and the play didn’t call for a lateral.
Bill Belichick was asked on Tom Brady's podcast what he saw in the QB that others didn't. His response lasted five minutes and included this fascinating story about what he learned from Brady.
Said Brady sees the game better than anyone he's ever met
"I mean, it was incredible"
Mac Jones on the last play: “I’ve got to tackle the guy. It’s on me, and it’s my fault. … I’ve got to tackle the guy, and we play for overtime.”
Called Jakobi Meyers “one of the best teammates I’ve ever had.”

Gunner Olszewski broke his nose last night. Took a forearm from Ryan Switzer on a kickoff during the third quarter. He stayed in the game and said he’ll be fine:
“It’s a nose, man. You don’t need it to run or anything like that.”
Julian Edelman dropped a Blake Bortles “BOAT” joke during his press conference, then lost his train of thought.
“It’s just a running joke with some guys...”
How should the Patriots honor Tom Brady?
My vote: Waive the four-year waiting period for the Patriots Hall of Fame and induct him in a big ceremony this summer/fall. Also give him a statue right here:
Tyler Boyd, via postgame transcript, on his matchup with Stephon Gilmore: “It was just 1-on-1. I won the majority of the matchups.”
Gilmore, who covered Boyd on almost every snap, allowed two catches on six targets for 24 yards with two INTs and two PBUs. 🤔🤔🤔
Julian Edelman said on the ManningCast that Tom Brady "hit me up the first day" he joined the Bucs. Said Brady asked if he wanted to join him and he replied "absolutely not."
Looks like a big Patriots throwing session down in Florida today. Mac Jones, Kendrick Bourne, Nelson Agholor, Jakobi Meyers and J.J. Taylor (via Bourne’s IG).
It was wildly irresponsible for the NFL to play Monday night's game. Stephon Gilmore tested negative for three straight days before the game, flew to KC, played every snap, then tested positive the next day, which the league *knew* was a possibility.
If you take out the 2008 ACL year, Tom Brady was a starting QB for 20 seasons. In those, he had more Super Bowl wins (seven) than seasons that ended before the conference championship round (six).
There are a lot of mind-blowing Brady stats, but that's right up near the top.
Chase Winovich saw a butterfly on the field before his sack today. He took it as a sign from his late grandmother.
“I was tearing up a little bit on the field. ... l was like, ‘That’s got to mean something.”
Patriots RB Brandon Bolden revealed on Instagram today that he battled cancer in 2018. Was diagnosed after the Pats-Eagles Super Bowl. He’s been cancer-free since his surgery.
New Patriots OT Marshall Newhouse said he was able to learn about 80 percent of the Pats’ playbook before today’s game, which seemed to surprise Marcus Cannon.
Lot of Patriots players left comments on Tom Brady’s Instagram post this morning. Ben Watson’s was particularly complimentary.
“Play as long as you desire to. This decade needs some TB records as well. Fan for life”
Kyle Van Noy said Dont'a Hightower didn't like him when he first joined the Patriots because he was replacing Jamie Collins.
After he got here, Van Noy said he was at the facility from 6 am to 10 pm every day for a month to learn the defense so he wouldn't need to ask Hightower
Belichick on not drafting a receiver: "We spent a first-round pick on N'Keal last year and a second-round pick on Sanu. ... We obviously have Julian and a number of young players. I think that'll be a very competitive group."
Jakobi Meyers on Mac Jones: "I know one of my memories from the year is just seeing him out there playing while you hear other people chanting another quarterback's name. That's something tough to deal with, but he didn't really complain."
Said he's "proud" of Jones for that.
Change is coming to the Patriots' coaching staff.
Bill Belichick reportedly will make "offensive coaching reassignments" after his end-of-season meeting with Robert Kraft.
Robert Kraft said this morning on CNN that Tom Brady and his kids FaceTimed him yesterday, presumably after Brady's retirement announcement:
"He really seemed happy. And they were happy."
DeVante Parker joined in at the Patriots’ latest throwing session. Mac Jones, Bourne, Meyers, Agholor and Taylor all out there again. (via Bourne’s IG)
Brady told Howard Stern he suffered a hernia in one game that caused one of his testicles to swell to the size of an orange. Said Matt Cassel called him "Purple Balls" for a while after that.

Never went more than 3 straight years without an SB appearance.
Kayshon Boutte’s message on IG after his failed fourth-down conversion.
“You live and you learn, it’s part of the game but it happens.”
“Only up from here tho”
This is the best angle of the Jones hit. Allen’s helmet actually is actually the one that initiates the contact. Calling for an ejection on this is a major overreaction, imo.
Rob Gronkowski’s final career stats: 522 catches, 7,861 yards, 79 touchdowns, five Pro Bowls, four first-team All-Pros, three Super Bowl rings. A surefire Hall of Famer.
Trent Brown, who’s about to play in his first Super Bowl, said he quickly learned after being traded to the Patriots that “all the bullcrap that people say about this place” wasn’t true.
“It is fun here. ... Everyone in building enjoys each other.”
