A woman in Saskatchewan needs surgery for a parathyroid issue and is being offered MAiD instead. There’s no one in the province who can perform the procedure and the government won’t pay to send her elsewhere. This is why disability advocates warn about assisted dying

Telling a struggling neurodivergent person that they just need to try harder is like telling a person who can't walk that they just need to try harder to walk. It's not about trying harder. It's about trying DIFFERENTLY. And most disabled people can't do that without help.

I was diagnosed with myositis at the same time I was diagnosed with lupus. 10% of lupus patients always get myositis. Myositis isn’t “being a bit tired” or “just needing to push through.” It’s a chronic, inflammatory muscle disease that literally weakens the muscles you need

The Health Foundation has estimated that around 30,000 extra beds would meet these demands and end brutal corridor care. Costs would be around £7b per year (+£20b one-off capital investment). We pay over £15b per year to private providers. Corridor care is a political choice.

Footage shared with ITV News has revealed “warzone” corridor care at an NHS hospital. The videos filmed this week at Queen’s Hospital in East London appear to show elderly and vulnerable patients left for days in cramped passageways instead of wards.

New “trains of the future” will have self-balancing snack tables and cinema-style onboard entertainment, but wheelchair users still won’t be able to board independently. An enraging reminder that we disabled people live in a different universe than our nondisabled peers.

Today I have woken with a deep anger at everything. If everyone wants disabled people to play a greater role in society, said society needs to be more accessible, more inclusive & more welcoming to disabled people. We should be able to live as we choose.

The cost of chronic illness isn’t just physical. It’s losing friends and family. Losing time. Losing dreams. Losing pieces of who you used to be. Losing hobbies. Losing jobs. Losing stability. All while being shamed for not “staying positive.”
