Feels a bit ironic to reappear on a platform I've abandoned for presumably obvious reasons to share the news that I'll be speaking at @SciComNZ conference next week about communicating through the noise of false information. But still, I am VERY excited about this talk.
We're thrilled to have @zenpeacekeeper from The Workshop as our keynote speaker on the opening day of our conference: 17 November in Åtepoti Dunedin. Just a few weeks away now - remember to get your tickets! Online and in-person options available. https://t.co/tTjyvCoz31

This unfortunately clashes with the toddler's evening schedule but I highly recommend this to anyone in Wellington interested in experiences of health workers in the pandemic (which is hopefully all of us, right?)

Abuse of women in politics & other public roles is on the rise. MÄori, disabled and queer people in public roles have experienced this forever. It's a concerted effort to push some people out of public roles, and demands collective & system-level response. https://t.co/ehqkCnCXHi

Sexist abuse and threats can have a chilling effect on democracy and deter people from taking part in political conversations, an expert says.

Kia ora Twitter - I'm looking for MÄori-owned food businesses who sell online. I know Kono (YBR for seafood, Kono & Tohu wines, TutÅ« cider), HapÄ« kai, Biofarm yoghurts, Wenua honey. Who else? Or is there someone already putting together MÄori-owned food products gift baskets?

Iām going through responses to this and blocking anyone making racist comments. And the very fact that my tweet attracted those responses suggests, as others have pointed out, that I should have thought twice before commenting as a white woman.

@zenpeacekeeper People seemed to think it was funny, but really very ableist, uncool and horrible to watch, and if it was scripted, as suggested, it was extremely and brutally cynical. Either way the Oscars are just one huge, self congratulatory and boring ego fest.

Like lots of people (way way too many of us) I grew up in a deeply fat-phobic culture and, friends, we have some serious work to do to de-programme ourselves. But it is so worth it. Fat liberation - like all true liberation movements - is deeply good for us all.

Iām thinking about how anti-fat discrimination is much more than fat-hating trolls in mentions of people mourning & celebrating an amazing friend. Itās everywhere and lots of us are complicit & what I understand about that is thanks to people like @FOMNZ and Iām grateful & sad.

Thanks so much for the excellent spirit-lifting memes and videos last night. Today we made it to nap time without me crying so things are going well.
