The @COPDFoundation in @TheLancet emphasizes - only 25% of COPD is diagnosed in the USA; likely worse world-wide; because of neglect by funding agencies. Affected low-income communities need to speak out; also, all who advance treatment/care for this disease @copd_inet @nih_nhlbi.

In 2023, COPD affected 20 million people in the US and 300 million globally. Unfortunately, funding for this major killer of primarily of disadvantaged populations is minimal because of lack of advocacy by researchers and patients. #COPD, @m_konigshoff, @NHLBI_LUNGDir.

It was an honor to give the Mary Williams Lecture at the @BUMCPulmonary Center. More importantly to get feedback from the many excellent lung experts at the Center with an amazing rich history in lung research.

A big thank you to the @Helmholtz team for organizing the first @COPDiNET meeting in rural Bavaria on basic and translational aspects of COPD. The scientific talks were a great foundation for the focused goal of "curing COPD together."

The Lancet Commission states that COPD research is underfunded by the NIH compared with asthma: In 2020, asthma received $81,500 and COPD less than $800 per US death. The reason is: risk factors are associated with low socioeconomic status, and the underprivileged have no voice.
