Why Humane?
In March of 2019, I met Imran in NY for coffee. We shared our love for technology and the potential for ambient computing to change the world. I didn't know what the product was - but I felt our shared concern and vision for how tech could be better.
today I learned something that
@MKBHD
is the 🐐 of.
there’s a difference between testing a product and living with it
when you test, you beat the crap out of it to see what it can do (it might even overheat 👀)
but when you live with a product, you see what it can do for you
It’s surreal to me that it’s been 3 years since my journey started
@Humane
. Since then, we've grown from a team of 5 to well over 150. Here are some things I've learned about growth, building a product, design, and being human along the way...

The power output isn't worth it considering the area covered on the roof is quite small. Would probably be a better value to have things like the full sun-roof.
Ai Pin Video Handbook
In this video you’ll learn how to use Ai Pin, what it can do, Laser Ink, and much more.
Made by the Humane team in SF, with love.

spent last week in nyc with my ai pin… so many great reactions but one my favs:
“holy 💩 i didn’t know it was real! thought that was a prototype!”
most relatable reaction imo… i use this thing every day, and i’m still amazed by it… feels like i’m living in the future ✨
as latency for the technology decreases, usability will become the differentiator.
only thing missing from this stellar comparison video is the time it takes to pull your phone out of your pocket and frame the image.
pin ftw 👑
the first batch of ai pins started to leave the factory this past monday. here’s the first pallet loaded onto the trucks. a big moment that's been in the making for quite some time.
this journey, filled with challenges, learning curves, and perseverance, wouldn't have been…
i consistently get two pieces of advice:
1. you should work as hard as you can in your 20s
2. you should party as much as you can in your 20s
my takeaway: nobody knows wtf they’re talking about

Every time I have seen a new person interact with the Ai Pin, they immediately have awesome ideas for how they would use it in their life. I'm excited for those ideas to finally become realities.
Okay, I know this example by
@yanirnulman
may seem silly, but it's incredibly important.
Hear me out...
One of the biggest issues with today's generative AI models is that they try to "babysit" you. They'll nitpick every little question based on an arbitrary ethical standard…
Transparency is incredibly important.
When we show what we’re building, it’s 100% real. If you fake it, you’re not demoing a 1.0 product, you’re demoing a 1.0 idea.
Customers don’t want ideas, they want products.
I am so proud of the Ai Pin.
Despite some of the challenges of the last few years (like building a hardware product during Covid) we really didn't cut any corners. As soon as people lift their pin out of the box, it will be clear how much intention was put into every detail.
Since meeting Imran in 2019, joining a team of 3, and watching the company grow to 200+, our vision and mission has never changed. We deeply believe that there is a need for technology to start bringing people closer to their experiences instead of being a barrier to them.
Why am I excited for the next 4 years?
We've spent the last few years building in total stealth. Through long days, nights, and many weekends, the Ai Pin has been something only for Humane to experience. Now we get to share it!
The humans at Humane are a special group. Beyond their wide and deep expertise - they are stellar individuals. I have grown so much - personally and professionally - learning from the phenomenal people here.
When a company experiences hyper-growth, clear communication must be safeguarded. As team sizes grow, people begin making assumptions.
Don't let assumptions get out of hand. Take control by identifying them and communicating them to others. Everyone benefits from the clarity.
the design team at
@humane
is growing!
i’d love to hear from anyone passionate about building an impactful and exquisite future through industrial, product and interaction design.

Go.
Trust your gut.
If something you’re working on or presenting doesn’t feel right, ask yourself why. If it’s not ready, don’t show it. But if something feels really good, take conviction in your ideas.

This is completely possible using electromagnetic conduction on the inside or outside of the sock absorbers. (I'm a bigger fan of slapping them around the suspension).
Not containing energy in the shok absorbers, just generating electricity that feeds back into the battery
Timing is part of the 1.0 product design process.
Prioritize building what's needed to ship and show customers how the product will evolve. A great idea may not fit right now, but it could in the future.
Keep a list of designs that you can bring back when they’re needed.
I ran some videos taken with my
@Humane
Ai Pin through

. Didn’t do any weird scanning movements during capture. Just recorded while walking. Pretty wild.

I should be able to suggest a song to a friend inside the app, so when they open the app they can get a playlist/queue of songs suggested to them
(people usually forget to check a song out when its sent over text and they're not listening right then)
It's okay to butt heads and disagree with people you respect. You’ll respect yourself more if you voice your mind rather than sit on the sidelines. Odds are, the person you're disagreeing with will appreciate it too.
I'm thrilled to share that I've joined
@villageglobal
to focus on early-stage company building and investing. Having admired Village Global for some time, I've consistently been impressed by their hands-on support for founders, extensive network, and tight-knit team culture.
Okay... I'm going to walk back my comments from a few weeks ago, as I personally experienced an incredibly relevant (and slightly humbling) use case for what
@Humane
is building. The story starts running through the streets of Tirano, Italy...
Imagine a social network where you couldn’t add links, or copy-paste text, or add photos/videos you didn’t take... and all the content was genuine, generated by you and your friends. All content would be made on the platform, and stay on the platform.
wouldn’t that be nice
@ianzelbo
nah, even if it did, the brain adjusts over time.
but if you’re competing with your vision pro for screen size, maybe the 15 will feel a bit better 😅
me: “i just tweeted something funny”
my friend: “you’re generally a funny guy, you make me laugh a lot… but you’re not twitter funny”
me: *reads this tweet to him*
my friend: “don’t post that, thats not funny”
