Please forgive the terrible picture Peacock is stupid and blacks out screenshots. But it doesn’t help that they have an arm swingy movement which clearly illustrates what 2 arm lengths looks like. Even when his arm is fully forward there’s a gap.
The ChRS this season permits 1 separation with no more than two arm lengths between the partners for no more than 5 seconds, the rest must be skated in contact. Olivia and Tim looked to get a little too far apart in the last 5 seconds of their ChRS & that’s why they received “!”

Everytime I see Julie Andrews, I just think back to when she told Walt Disney she was pregnant and wouldn't be available for a film and he said "We'll wait." WE'LL WAIT. GOAT.

New post with suggestions about the future of the short dance is up! Very short preview of it here but I highly recommend looking at the full thing on tumblr. 🌀 Kaitlyn Weaver and Shawn Rettstatt you want to read it so bad 🌀 https://t.co/b2KcmxuEKb

I am of the belief that dances being historically non-partnered (solo) or group is actually an interesting challenge to have skaters translate. Many forms of traditional Brazilian samba are non-partnered! But also until hold requirements for the PSt are reintroduced…

the masses yearn for the original dance! part of the problem with these new rules is the lack of any intention. It’s like the tech committee did the Jimmy Fallon “wheel of musical impressions” to decide what themes to pair with patterns.
So... the rhythm dance requirements. - Disco has never been a partnered dance, except within very tiny dance sport communities. - Rock'n'roll and jive are based mostly on swing rhythms (6/8, 12/8 etc) so they are illegal for the paso sections.

out of curiosity, does anyone have access to the official handbooks for pre-2004 6.0 composition guidelines? i’ve found some for ice dance but am particularly interested in pairs!

Two skaters claim a former Olympic skater sexually abused them when he coached at an ice rink in Irmo, South Carolina. Lawyers praised the women as heroes.

I think alternatively you could simply have an extra formal element, a twist or lift or SBS jump that is given an extra notation on the protocol (+ExEl but not a deduction) so that its default BV and GOE are equivalent. i.e. all level 4 lifts, triple throws, triple jumps=4 points

😉 Glad to see this being considered by the ISU
I also don’t hate the idea of teams doing a choreo Pairs element of their choice (ChThrow, ChTwist, ChLift, ChDs, Ch SBS Sp, Ch SBS jumps) to replace one lift in the FS with how demanding the current composition req are. Would allow for more variety & teams to show strengths

It’s officially been decided that 4CC will be used to determine Japan’s WC ice dance spot. The team with the highest placement at 4CC will be assigned to the WC, and the second-highest team will be the alternates. This procedure is being used due to the teams’ close abilities.

Personally… lifts that feature upside down positions actually should have a HIGHER standard for stability. Since being worried that someone is going to be dropped on their head significantly takes away from the overall effect of the lift.

I should state that it’s ridiculous & unethical that someone with a serious allegation of violent assault that’s currently being investigated is allowed to compete. The current system of patchwork 🇨🇦OSIC & 🇺🇸SafeSport is ineffective at keeping athletes safe & predators out of FS.
Sorensen competes in Canadian Nationals this weekend, where I can only pray he faces a modicum of accountability & repudiation for his disgusting actions. As always, this account stands with survivors and making skating a safer place for all.

She did not file charges in Connecticut (where the assault occurred) originally because she feared she would be blamed & disbelieved. The statute of limitations now prevents her from a criminal trial in the US.
