Our new paper is out in PNAS! We show that competition for binding to the Hfq matchmaker disfavors mismatched sRNA-mRNA combinations while allowing matched sRNA-mRNAs to form stable pairs. Kudos to Jorjethe Roca and Yi-Lan Chen for their fantastic work!

New paper alert! We used optical tweezers to resolve heterogenous folding/unfolding pathways of repeat expanded huntingtin mRNA, revealing how hairpin slippage can seed inter-strand base pairing and promote aggregation. Congrats @NothinBut_Brett! ππ

Congrats Daniel and Elise! Check out our new story about how the structure of the glmS ribozyme has evolved to avoid non-native tertiary contact interfaces ππ
Excited to share our new #ribozyme paper in @NAR_Open! We used activity assays, high-throughput sequencing & all-atom MD to show that the evolution of the glmS ribozyme is constrained by a need to avoid non-native helix interfaces! #RNA @woodson_lab

Congrats Ewelina! Check out our new #singlemolecule story that shows how Hfq-sRNA complexes conduct a 1D scan of target mRNAsππ
Exciting news from @NatureComms: bacterial mRNAs are scanned for RNA-guided regulation. Hfq binds mRNA using one surface and compacts it using another. This way Hfq transfers an sRNA between different target sites within a single mRNA!

Congratulations, Yumeng!! Check it outππ
Finally got this manuscript out, where we did time-resolved footprinting to understand RNA folding in real time. Thanks for @woodson_lab for support!

Excited to share our new #singlemolecule #riboswitch paper! We study the co-transcriptional folding kinetics of the glmS ribozyme riboswitch and how it allows a rapid response to metabolite for mRNA turnover. Congrats Yuan! @NAR_Open

Prices for radionuclides are astronomical! For 2022, the list prices have increased by 40-120% from 2021 and an as added gut punch, our academic discounts have gone down by 10%! Grant budgets haven't increased in years - wondering how we continue the science??π€@PerkinElmer
