The council is now voting on approving the minutes for April, May, and June. The motion is accepted.

Williams adds the sentiment that they're doing the best they can with what they have.

Chandler wishes that the district council had any sort of funding to serve their community, especially the youth.

Council member Chandler has directed the council's attention toward youth gatherings, she feels that these gatherings are an outlet for youth to express themselves.

Williams is raising issue with the city's gun buy back program as many of those guns find their way back onto the street.

Williams is explaining how he coordinated a free brake light repair event with O’Reilly’s, the idea being to reduce traffic stops, since many begin with a broken brake light.

Council member McGill also spent a solid amount of time talking about community events he's attended recently. It seems that council is making a conscious effort to show up at community gatherings and spread the word.

Williams has been incredibly active in the community over the past few months, attending events such as a job fair in Englewood, autism awareness event, an annual peace march, and talking to South Shore High School about the Police District Council's work.

Council member Williams (community engagement) is now giving updates. He recently confronted a gas station on 55th that was selling lighters resembling guns. The gas station gave Williams the rest of their inventory, which he discarded.

Another update from McGill: The nominating committee has now met twice and is prepping for the next round of nominations. There are three upcoming vacancies that must be filled by two youth and two north siders.

McGill also conducted a small, informal social media training for some of the other Police District Councils to strengthen online engagement.

Council member Mcgill (nominating committee) is giving an update on the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability's (CCPSA) traffic stop discussion. He’s dissatisfied with the commission’s failure to acknowledge the role race plays in traffic stops.

The two items on the agenda for today are “General Community Business”, which is quite vague, and voting to approve May, June, and July’s meeting minutes.

Although, according to recent reporting from Newswire, community members are still confused about exactly what Police District Councils do, how they’re structured, and how they relate to the rest of city government.
