Illinois is holding on every single offensive play. Every one. I’m sitting right here. Watching it in real time. Shane Beamer is losing it for a reason and he’s exactly right. The officiating has been atrocious.

What issues are more important to evangelicals than other voters? Immigration and the economy. What issues are less important? Abortion and personal character. https://t.co/0hIt7oK6p0

Watching a political convention is an odd experience when you feel at home in neither party. You notice the inspiring rhetoric. And the false and misleading statements. You notice the knuckleheads outside the convention center. You wonder how one party came to be ... 1/7

The obsession with Keller from the “negative world” espousing and “shepherds for sale” fans would be fascinating if it weren’t grotesque. Why does this man who devoted his life to preaching the gospel in a hostile place make you so angry? Do you hate the idea that grace is

Basham also attacks the late Tim Keller, who preached about absolute truth, sexual ethics, and the sanctity of life in one of the the most secular spaces in America. Meanwhile, his posthumous detractors spend their time throwing red meat and preaching to an ever-shrinking choir.

Shameful and disgraceful. A great Christian man who lived through his children barely surviving a school shooting. Southern Baptists, how much more of this are you going to let go on? You cannot pretend not to see what is happening in your name. https://t.co/omsVUeWaRj

We can be deeply grateful Trump’s life was spared and still strongly wish we had different presidential candidates. Humans really are capable of nuance. Trolls are not. But humans are.

The SBC's decline corresponds with the shift towards fundamentalism and away from evangelicalism. What was a big-tent conservative group is becoming a narrow fundamentalist group. I do not anticipate the SBC changing course any time soon. Thus, declines will continue. #SBC24

There's a lot of media coverage of the Southern Baptist Convention because it serves as a bellwether for evangelicalism. But the share of all evangelicals who are Southern Baptist is declining, from 23% to 18%. In 1984, 5% of evangelicals were non-denom. In 2022, it was 40%.

Neither major candidate for president is fit for the office, and no amount of emphasizing the unfitness of one will convince me of the fitness of the other. And there are lots like me. You can get mad at us, blame us for your guy’s loss, whatever. But the emperors are naked. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Everyone seems to agree that the SBC is at a crossroads. Much like the original “conservative resurgence”, this is about power. June will be interesting.

One reason the SBC is in need of deep, systemic reform: Paul Pressler was a hero - and it’s still unusual to see anything more than silence or indirect critique. Beth Moore was a heretic - and it’s still common to see her unfairly attacked. It doesn’t take a PhD in Biblical
