Wisconsin Football Coaches Association -- To maintain the highest standards in the game of football & coaching profession and improve high school football
Friday Night Lights remain about high school football, and we re-iterate our disappointment that the Big Ten and the University of Wisconsin continues to infringe upon this great tradition.
The WFCA has always supported reserving Friday night for High School Football, and the Big Ten and University of Wisconsin's decision to continue to infringe on that deeply-rooted tradition creates obstacles to the long-term success of the game at every level.

The entire football community is saddened to learn of the passing of Somerset coach Bruce Larson today. Coach Larson was a longtime, active member of the WFCA & we were very proud that he was named the National Coach of the Year in 2015. Our thoughts are with his family.
Today would have been the WFCA All-Star Games in Oshkosh. We miss all the players, coaches, and fans who would have made it a great week, and the opportunity for the players to interact with the incredible patients and staff at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
The players and coaches participating in the 2018 WFCA All-Star Games raised a total of $487,161.57 for the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. We’re so proud of our players and coaches and blessed to partner with
@childhealthwi

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you all of the passing this morning of Frank Matrise, Jr., former coach at Kenosha Tremper and WFCA Past-President, after a battle with cancer. We hope to share funeral arrangement information in the coming days.
Good luck to all the high school football teams, coaches, and players beginning their seasons tonight. We know some of you will have to wait until the spring, but keep working during this time. Get after it!
This is why we do it. The 220 players and coaches participating in the WFCA All Star Games this year have raised more than $380,000 for
@childrenswi
. More than $5.3 million since 2006.
We look forward to supporting all the teams, coaches, and athletes participating in the sacred tradition of high school football Friday Night Lights, and hope you do as well, even if from afar. Friday nights mean high school football.
As a football community we must continue to extoll the positive aspects of participating in football, the tremendous stats about how many choose to play, and the measures we've all taken to make the game the safest it has ever been.
The 2019 high school football season begins tonight, and the WFCA would like to extend best wishes to all the teams, coaches, and players on what will be an exciting season!
Congratulations to the teams, players, and following coaches on their state championships:

A big thank you to the many college coaches that attended today’s WFCA Combine. These are just a few of the great coaches that traveled to join us today.
The WIAA Board of Control voted today to adjust the football practice start date to September 7th. We will continue to work w/ our partners at the WIAA to determine what that means for scheduling, playoff qualifying, playoff structure, & more. We are excited to get back!
We’re very thankful to the Kansas coaching staff for speaking at todays WFCA Clinic, including Andy Kotelnicki and head coach Lance Leipold. The entire staff was very gracious to donate their full speaking fee back to the WFCA Scholarship Fund.
This is what the
@childhealthwi
All-Star week is really about! The KIDS! The game is the bonus, the effect these boys have had w/ their fundraising will impact forever!

Finally, the WFCA was proud to recognize the late Jim Jacobsen of Brookfield East as the WFCA Assistant Coach of the Year. Coach Jacobsen passed away in December after battling cancer, but we were very honored to recognize his family that was in attendance.
When people ask why the WFCA All-Star week is so special, these are the kinds of things players always mention.
Francis Kahle, born w/ tetra amelia & the son of South Small asst. Jon Kahle, could force pushups for the team w/ a home run. Love the reactions.
Congratulations to Packers/WFCA Coach of the Year Andrew Selgrad from Columbus as well as all of the Packers Coach of the Week recipients. Award presented by WFCA executive board member Travis Wilson before tonight’s game.

Stories like this are why we are so proud to partner with the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin to raise funds and create engagement as part of the WFCA All-Star Games.
We start tonight by recognizing National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee Joe LaBuda from Menomonie. Coach LaBuda was inducted into the WFCA Hall of Fame in 2020.

Thank you to all the players that attended today’s WFCA Combine. A big thank you to the HS coaches who helped us today. A huge shoutout to the college coaches who made the trip. Thanks to Brad Arnett and the crew at NX Level for administering the testing.
We are proud to work with Dr. McGuine on many projects, and his study acutely highlights the risk student-athletes are at during this difficult time and why it is so important to find ways to safely resume high school athletics, including football.
Dr. McGuine surveyed 3,243 student-athletes from 71 of 72 counties in WI.
- 2/3 reported mental health & depression issues that would normally require treatment or attention
- 50% lower activity levels, lowest recorded
- Quality of life scores lower than ever detected.
Congrats to our first Hall of Fame inductee of the evening: Wisconsin Rapids head coach Tony Biolo. Tony will soon serve his second stint as WFCA President.
So many thank you’s for today. All the volunteers that assisted, the 80+ college coaches, the parents & HS coaches that came w/ kids, and of course the 500+ players that attended.
Special thank you to Sussex Hamilton staff, Jeff Trickey, Tony Biolo, Travis Wilson & many others
The Packers Coach of the Week recipients and WFCA/Packers Coach of the Year winner Matt Hensler from Badger HS are recognized on the videoboard prior to todays
