My verdict? There are some hidden gems but you have to really dig around.
Not much asian lits but quite loads of booker/women prize lits and some classics :)
FIN in one seating.
Will You Love Me by Norhafsah Hamid is a story of acceptance and the test of faith - in grievance and in love - and becoming human.
A read that showed how faith can be found in the most unexpected ways and how we are only the planners but God knows more.
If you have a short attention span and needs books that are short, but leaves an impact - be it with its prose or plot - I gotchu.
Here are a list of Translated Literatures below 200 pages that I loved.
A variety of choices with varied genres but all so good!
Fin!
Rumah Tak Mesti Bahagia - novel yang aku tertarik selepas membaca bab percuma tempoh hari dan secara keseluruhannya aku berpuas hati
On self-discovery and identity, questions on The Almighty, His love and Grace, and mostly of finding family in the most unexpected ways 🥺
Dibeli ketika PBAKL tahun lepas -
Tiba-tiba terdetik nak baca tahun ni.
Ha pukul 1 pagi dah bagi jumpscare 😂 Rupanya 👀
(Ayat last tu ha penat gelak. Pandai eh penulis saja nak mainkan perasaan saya 😂)

Friday Bookhaul :’) Went a tad crazy this month 😭
Half are from Bookxcess ^.^
yall be preaching 'alternatives' to Bookdepository are privileged - coming from a South East :/
There's a reason why BD are used widely rather than the other websites( and YES I HAVE TESTED THEM )
- bad UX
- cant check out AT ALL
- emailed multiple times - they dont ship to MY

2) Makan sahur closest to Subuh.

Getting ready from now juga or not memang naya puasa nanti
55% progress for my mini library.
Moved most of my books and arranged it as my energy ables 😂
Might rearrange but for now, I’m just glad my babies have a proper place 🥹
i think im at a point of my life that i want to be selfish. but it seems impossible as im made to shoulder every responsibility. its exhausting and exasperating.
Currently reading:
The Dallergut Dream Department Store by Miye Lee, translated from Korean by
@sandyjoosunlee
.
A department store that sells dreams? I definitely wish this is real 😭
Lowkey one of the best covers this year and im halfway thru and loving the story so much 🥺
Nama je perjuangkan benda baik tapi dok canang benda benda negatif sini sana.
People moved on. You could focus to be better rather than bringing up what has been done and dusted.
So we see that the problem is actually you.
And FIN!
Children We Never Had had left me 😵💫😭✨
Of Unconventional practices, messy characters and mostly of womenhood and motherhood.
The topic of this book is heavy and heartwrenching. Its a side that questions ur morality but it showed what it is to be human.

Regardless wether you’ve read 200. 150, 20 or even 1 book a year? Embrace it.
Be proud of your achievements .
Don’t sound condescending just to justify your insecurities 🫶

The discourse of Booktok being a place to only find “spicy” reads is a bit far-fetched already.
Whilst there are pros and cons in terms of readership loyalty and etc, so many underrated titles are discovered more through the app and it has helped create a new wave of readers.
Presenting my mini collection of Natalia Ginzburg ✨🫶
Natalia Ginzburg’s works are simple and straightforward and yet - behind the simple proses lays a thousand of subtle voices waiting to be heard.
Slowly collecting them - her books are not that easy to comeby :’)
Unprofessional and just rude on Hattan. Shame on you. Her job is a NEWSCASTER -_- If her info is wrong, just correct it and go.Its on LIVE TV.
Semua terpaling susah gak -_-
I always wait till I'm at least 6 episodes in a kdrama to give my thoughts to it and to know whether I will like it or not - and so far, with Dr Cha, I'm loving it.
Its not just about starting your life again - its the sacrifice of a mother and women for their household.
I feel like there's different kinds of "healing" books for everyone.
Some heals with poetry/anecdotes of hope from the author.
Some heals in form of stories that will let you bawl your eyes out.
Some heals in the most traumatic and unhinged books as they feel they're not alone.
Kalau siapa tak tahu nak beli apa untuk PBAKL tahun ni, ini adalah thread buku-buku baru dari pelbagai Penerbit yang telah menarik perhatian dan dah ada dalam wishlist!

So i bought my 83 year old grandpa Family Mart for the first time - the chicken - and he loved it so much he went around telling every single person he met today 😂😂😂😂

What have i unleashed kah kah
I’ve never once thought that I would own a black cat. She’s not fussy, does her own thing, might seem to not like u, but will be the first one to be there during my low periods
My sweetest sassy girl who will give me kisses, holds my hand to sleep and secretly loves cuddles 🤍
Kucing fully hitam sentiasa ada soft spot dalam hati aku. Sebab dia tak banyak kerenah, matang dan nampak classy gila.
Biasanya kalau kucing warna lain dia bengong-bengong sikit. Oyen bengong banyak.
Pak Hadi seorang pianis.
Masih tak percaya - I had the honour of playing the piano with him at his home before.
Obv not perfect :’) Gurlie was crying and nervous 😂
Ketemu semula kita Pak Hadi!

Also its a sign for everyone to send your manuscripts to Bookiut cause they’re accepting English Manuscripts now!!
Details are in the post and a grand effort from
@bukuPTS
🫡
PTS is publishing our first English young adult books. Under our imprint Bookiut, the books will be available sooner than you expected.
Don't go anywhere, there is more to come! We are excited to introduce two more titles before Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair 2023.
A Woman of Pleasure by Kiyoko Murata, trans by Juliet Winters Carpenter
Based on true events, we follow through the lenses of a 15 y/o Aoi who was sold to work as a prostitute.
Of friendship, womenhood and also for the human rights of sexual workers. Def an eye opening read.
Some PSA:
1) You'll have to pay RM2.50 per entry.
- If you want to save time and not hassle yourself to pay at counter, just go to this link!
2) Layout
- Hall 1-3: Chinese Books/CD/Stationary
- Hall 4 -5 : English and Malay Books (Fic and Non Fic)
Not a good day, so I'm nitpicking things. The topic today is the long argument of Fiction VS Non Fic.
Can we all just be happy that everyone is being more diverse with their reading. ITS JUST A LABEL. You can't put things so black and white especially if its related to language
Finally home and unboxing parcels from last week 😂
I restocked my tabbings and I’m in love hehe ^.^
The top row is from a new shop and I’m testing it cause the colours look 😍
The bottom row is from my usual shop ^.^ teehee
Saturday shelfie :)
Managed to clean only 6 shelves 😂
✅ Deep cleaned
✅ Catalogued my books
✅ Rearranged my books
Moved problematic/books that dont spark joy but my sisters still want it on the bottom shelves 😂
We’ll see how many books i have when i finish cataloging

Forever grateful to Times Reads for sending me these titles 😭 They’re all very. Highly. Anticipated. 😭 i lowkey teared up 💕🤍
One of the things I love what I do ….
I get early copies for one of my most anticipated releases next year :’))
Your Utopia, written and translated from the lovely duo, Bora Chung and
@AntonHur
✨👏🏻
Look at this BEAUTY 💕
@honfordstar
never fails with their covers 🫢
Sayaka Murata’s work is weird and out of norm. The elements of the book makes it weird.
But I love her writing because she made me feel sane in a world filled with insanity.
Her characters tells you that by society’s standards u will never be normal so just live as u please.
Finished Yellowface by RF Kuang.
Leave it to her to write such unlikeable characters but we still felt every emotion they had. It was nerve wrecking and has a dark humour quality that I love.
Airing out every dirty laundry in the Publishing Industry? Miss Kuang u’re 👏🏻

I would say this month was a win cause I was in a really bad slump and there are TWO 5🌟 reads in here :’)
Let’s see how August treats me ^.^

please take note of your lifts. A disabled adik in a wheelchair HAD TO CARRIED BY 3 WOMEN to go down. Her caretaker is an old lady. The lifts were broken.
This in KTM SEREMBAN btw, one of the main KTM’s here. Me and two akak helped carried her down.

Yes for those who asked if the promotions extends to mangas - its basically EVERYTHING that POPULAR offers!!!
Look at what they brought in 😍😍
I love their pavillions ^.^
Analyzation for Social Media Platforms of the week : Tiktok
✨They are pushing videos more than 1 minute
- Yes , they highly prefer talking videos
- Make sure your resolution is good
- Be on par with your brand (name)
✨Location Tag
- Videos with location are getting pushed
The discourse of authors reading reviews - and reacting to them (please I beg no) - is in bad faith.
You're not only betraying your audience (readers) - as they will be afraid to write what they're truly feeling - but you're also be seen as someone who can't take criticism.
CR: The Undead City
One of the latest launches by
@BukuBookiut
for PBAKL tomorrow✨
A story narrated by the voice of the MC who has schizophrenia and they somewhat had to go thru a zombie infestation 😵💫

Got all of them each for RM10 cause of the - 1 for RM15 , 3 for RM10 each - promo.
(Not sure if its still available cause i think i took the last one) but more titles are there too
I'm not smart. I lack a lot of things but one thing that I will train myself to do is to think and rethink and rethink again before speaking, especially on issues that matters.
Ask questions. Do fact checks. Don't make a fool of yourself , especially when you have a voice.
My first read of the year and first read for
#JanuaryinJapan
.
Final installment to The Detective Kaga series and it absolutely shattered me. The Final Curtain gives off and plays like the scene of a grand play attuned to its title.
One of the best from Keigo yet. A showstopper.
We meet again Yozo.
And this time - its not a hopeful ending.
To those who wants to venture into Dazai’s writing - please note of the extreme suicidal ideation and thoughts in here. Its comforting to some (yes dont be surprised ) but please be responsible with ur own reading.
Two books came in the mail today 🤍
Thank you to
@imanpublication
@imanshoppe
for sending me the latest Norhafsah Hamid’s book.
Elitis was sent by the author herself! I love her efforts and will cherish everything she gave 🤍🤍🤍 Book published by

Today is a day filled with blessings 😭
Ummi’s procedure went well, and my friends came to surprise me 🤍😭
Met so many wonderful people im just thankful 😭

Because Queen Charlotte seemed so very good and a lot of the book lovers loved it so much - I literally ransacked my shelf remembering I actually own Bridgerton 😂
And since I’m almost finishing it already - quick run to POPULAR to get the sequels (very clown behaviour)
Haul SIBF!
Baru perasan banyak dari

I forgot what happiness really is.
9 years after my first relapse, I felt it again. My body remembers that this was the month. The month I stayed alive. And I finally felt it .
10 Japanese Lits to get to know me:
Earthlings

All The Lovers in The Nights
Devotion of Suspect X
After Dark - Murakami
Kitchen
Life of A Stupid Man
Lonely Castle In The Mirror
Gokumon Island
Bookdepository had opened OPTIONS for people to get books, ESPECIALLY FROM INDIE PUBLISHERS!!!!
Not only Amazon is expensive as heck - their SHIPPING OPTIONS ARE NOT HELPING AT ALL.
And compared to certain websites, there are options but its not easy to get certain titles.
I get so mad with people who REALLY wants to EMPHASIZE on the genres that you read.
Your comprehension comes with age.
Your understanding towards the world comes with experience.
Instead of putting a line between the two genres, encourage people to start reading diversely
Sedang berlangsung 😉
Tahniah

A Little Luck by Claudia Pineiro.
Its raw takes on motherhood, the lyrical proses that was not overly done, and a story that had me sobbing throughout. It shredded my heart and somehow pieced it back together again.
Sharing some of my fav quotes.
