The union expects to be engaged in negotiations with WFYI leadership over several of our bargaining unit members, with our chief priority being to ensure that people are paid severance as part of their package.

These cuts will mean fewer reporters are working to help cover the state and keep us informed about what is happening around us at a time when we need it more than ever.

The IPB newsroom launched in December 2015 and has been an essential part of the state, local, and national news ecosystem since that time. In the last decade, IPB News has been recognized for award-winning coverage.

This is a huge blow to news in Indiana and to our union, as many of the journalists being laid off have helped to shape both award-winning coverage across the state and our ongoing fight for a fair contract with WFYI.

Today, we learned that the staff of IPB News will not be renewed once their current contracts expire at the end of the year. Local stations, which pay into IPB News, have been hit with funding cuts at the state level, and further cuts loom at the federal level.
