Elaine Paige asking Idina what she learnt from being in london and opening Wicked here.
Her answer?
You can do eight shows a week and go to the pub every night.
LEGEND!
Please stop casting the same people over and over again in theatre shows. There are so many talented performers out there that deserve to have a chance to succeed.
It’s so noisy on the streets of Paris that I’ve given in and am watching the match. I can’t hear anything else on tv for all the screaming and shouting outside. If you can’t beat them, join them!
Shows like Hamilton, Hadestown and Come From Away document such important moments in history they should be part of the school ciriculum to go and see live on stage. Theatre is so important to educate as well as entertain.
#SaveTheArts
Does anyone else sit there wondering what musical theatre characters would have been up to during lockdown?
Is Mary Poppins in a bubble with the Banks family?
Does Elphaba think the wizard is to blame for coronavirus?
Is Jamie furious no one is talking about him anymore?
During these times of isolation, if any performers are planning to do a little concert in their living room and stream it live on social media, let me know and I will do what I can to promote that it’s happening. Let’s bring the joy of theatre into peoples homes!
I constantly see actors replying to tweets of praise for their performance saying ‘I was actually off and the praise should go to X’. THIS MEANS THEATRE’S ARE NOT MAKING IT CLEAR ENOUGH WHEN UNDERSTUDIES ARE ON. Credit where credit’s due. Please allow the correct actors to shine!

This means nothing. If you really mean it, use your platform to educate people about the importance of the arts and respecting performers and those who pay a lot of money to experience the show and not the people around them
Producers should start inviting press to review understudies on scheduled performances so they can get the coverage they deserve. They work just as hard and deserve to be recognised properly.

One thing I will say about
@catsmovie
is that the new song by
@taylorswift13
is incredible and fits so well within the story. I am grateful the film has given us that
Today, an actor said online “you don’t need to be that good an actor to be in a musical”.
Also today, I saw two musical theatre actors, that gave phenomenal ‘acting through song’ performances
@alice_fearn
&
@VerityRushworth
. They are shining beacons for why this is simply untrue
Got a DM after tweeting about going to the theatre alone yesterday: “I’m sorry you were on your own, let me know if you ever need someone to go with”. As lovely as this is, I do EVERYTHING alone; restaurants, spa days, theatre... I’m not lonely, I’m just obsessed with myself. ❤️
My 15 yr old daughter has nonverbal autism and LOVES
@HamiltonMusical
- specifically
@leslieodomjr
singing this song. After being obsessed with the soundtrack for 2 years, she FINALLY saw the production yesterday! 😭Thank you
@Lin_Manuel
for creating this masterpiece.

I’ve booked the cheapest possible tickets to 7 west end shows and I’m going to review the view and value for money in a special blog coming soon!

Twitter is a horrible place. We are all angry at the state of the world right now but please do not tell others what they should or shouldn’t be posting on their own accounts. We all deal with things in different ways and we have no right to tell others what they should be doing.
FYI - actors get public transport too. If you’re going to slag off an actor you’ve just seen in a show whilst on the tube home, make sure they aren’t sitting next to you... listening!
If the rumours are true that Blood Brothers may be returning to the west end I would like to put out to the universe that we need
@Beverleyknight
as Mrs J.
Dear
@OfficialALW
, I knows it’s closing but can I suggest that at the end of
@ALWCinderella
, when Sebastian is singing to the shoe, he instead sings ‘only you, lonely shoe’ as I feel this will work better. Many thanks.
Celine Dion is making a big London announcement tomorrow morning. My money is on a London residency somewhere. But where? Perhaps a London theatre? The Palladium, The Dominion???

I want to be there for the first show back
@WickedUK
when Glinda enters in her bubble and says those first words "it's good to see me isn't it?" as the crowd erupts into unanimous applause!
So who’s going to put on a concert version of
@ALWCinderella
to give all those who were supposed to be joining the cast a chance to actually perform it?
One thing we’ve learnt during lockdown is that some theatre producers go out of their way to try to help the industry get back on track, whilst others seem to care only about themselves.
If the West End gets closed down, I want to get all ex cast members from
@WickedUK
round to my flat to do a live stream of the whole show so people can still watch it from home 💚
I have no idea what shows I still have tickets for awaiting new dates, which I’ve had refunds for and which I have credit notes for. Anyone else feel lost?
The UK is to receive a world leading £1.57bn
But didn't France give their Arts sector €7bn?
So how is the UK amount 'world leading'?
(Genuine question)
I wanted to review theatre shows but everyone told me no because I didn’t have any experience. So I started a blog and wrote about the shows I went to see. No I run my blog full time and have 40 people writing for me.
#shareyourrejections
More than 35,000 theatre fans have voted today for the winners of the
@WilmaAwards
- in the last twelve hours. That’s crazy and goes to show how amazing the theatre community is because there has been 0 advertising done. It’s all been you guys 🙌🏻
Clapping for the NHS and putting rainbows in windows is a lovely gesture during these times but it doesn’t save lives or help wipe out the virus. If you want to really show you care, stay at home, don’t socialise with friends and family in person and don’t do the conga.
I understand theatre fans may like certain performers over others but it crosses the line when you publicly say you wish they would get coronavirus. Not cool. Please be kind and think about how your words affect others.
I'm going to be writing a weekly theatre blog about Theatre Etiquette, focusing on a different thing each week. What are your biggest annoyances at the theatre?

tonight refusing to take a gay couple on stage and insisting he needed a ‘heterosexual couple’. SHAME ON YOU. It’s 2017 in London and this is supposed to be a time of joy and acceptance. 😡
Is it right to keep announcing/promoting shows as ‘opening’ (at full capacity) in April/May/ etc when honestly we seem to be in a worse place than we were 9 months ago? No one knows when this will be able to happen but is it nice to at least give people some hope? I’m conflicted.
Queens! For those attending the 7pm performance of SIX today 👑
Due to illness and injury which has stricken the cast over the past few days we will be performing a unique concert version of the show this evening. (1/5)
Last night I had to privilege of seeing
@racheltucker1
as the alternate Norma Desmond in
@SunsetBlvdUK
(one of my favourite
@OfficialALW
shows). I admired the bravery of the new production - some of which worked and some that didn’t. HOWEVER…
Thank you
@BeMoreChill
for not only being a great show but for showing that you don’t have to have a six pack to be on a west end stage.
Normalising all body types starts here - other west end shows take note!

I feel so bad for all of the theatres that are having to cancel shows in order to self isolate because of coming into contact with the virus and then our prime minister yet again shows it’s one rule for him and another for us. 👎🏼
Well done to
@BGT
for not shying away from politics in the live final - even though this year has received so many complaints about it being too political. Some people don’t watch the news or keep up with real news and these reality shows may be the only place they learn anything
