#WeareAble! is een programma, waarin mensen met een handicap op weg worden geholpen naar een volwaardige plek in hun samenleving.
Joined January 2022
Today, the Dutch government presents plans&budgets for 2025. To create awareness about international cooperation and development (also in the interest of people with a handicap) MPs will receive a postcard with the message: 'don't let the Netherlands disappear from the worldmap'.
You've got mail! #NederlandVanDeKaart

We should prioritize food security for vulnerable groups so they are given a chance to reach similar heights as the competitors in Paris this week. Either by making food security programmes more inclusive, or by specifically targeting most vulnerables in food security programmes.

At @weare_able, we believe sports bring people together. The Paralympics can reduce #Stigma around disabilities, and so promote active involvement in public #decisionmaking. In our programme, we saw increased participation in decision-making around food security and accessiblity.

Consider Remy Nikobimeze from #Burundi, a para-athlete who served as a flag-bearer at the opening ceremony. His participation was made possible by a collaboration between Burundi and France. This support provided him with professional running gear and opportunities to qualify.

Women play an essential part in the food chain in the six countries of We are Able. At the same time, their crucial role is overlooked too often. We should recognize the stigmatization that women face, especially if they have a disability. This increases their food insecurity.

The We are Able! program raises awareness for the vulnerable position of persons with disabilities regarding their food security. On top of stigmatization and inaccessibility, climate change is an increasing challenge for them to engage in producing, processing, and selling food.
