In Alok Payam, one of our pump mechanics—Asunta—was standing with our team when her teenage son asked, “Mummy… how did you bring these important people to our house?” Then he said something that stunned her: “I want to go to school.”

Despite setbacks, she presses on: “When I repair the borehole, I earn money better than farming, and my community drinks clean water.” This year-end, we’re aiming for $300K to launch the next wave of women-led repair teams and double the number of mechanics in the field by 2026.

Maria’s story shows why Vision 2030 matters. In 2023, a crushed hand nearly ended her work as a well mechanic. Thanks to urgent care in Juba, she recovered — and by the end of 2024, she’d repaired 40 wells, restoring clean water across Warrap.
