So Mr Bright here has jumped on the Tartaria Bandwagon. While I'm not entirely surprised (grifters got to grift right), let's dive into why Tartaria did exist but not in the way #pseudoarchaeologists want it to. 🧵 1/9

UWTSD Lampeter, Sheffield, Newcastle & Cardiff; all extremely good Archaeology & Humanities departments facing cuts across the board. #Humanities are facing a real crisis which will negatively effect the #heritage sector. We need to do more.

Why do we need to keep exposing the issues in pseudoarchaeology? Because you find, in the US, that lawmakers can take an interest in the statements made by people in this area. On the other hand, at least Mr Corsetti has discovered that he was erroneous in his comments

In other words, don't fall for classical statue accounts that spew pseudohistory and false narratives to suit a WS agenda 6/6

This comes very close to the arguments made by those believing in Tartaria; that "horse and buggy" people couldn't build these structures or that we cant build them today...except the fact that France has literally just done exactly that in just 5 years using tradition tech 5/6

The main point this account tries to make is that people couldn't build monumental structures i.e temples - ignoring the huge cathedrals built in the later medieval period and elaborate churches and castles built, often re-purposing Roman materials 4/6

In fact, we now have evidence of Roman Villas being continously occupied and even extended into the later 5th century here in Britain. 3/6

This poster for example bemoans that Medieval people could recreate or maintain Roman imperial structures. This just isn't true, they could, they just didn't need to. After the fall of Roman (in the west anyway) people did maintain and re-use Roman structures 2/6

Just a pertinent reminder not to listen or follow accounts with classical statues as their PFP - they are almost always pseudo-adjacent and taking leaves out of the WS playbook by harking back to a "glorious past" thread ✨️ 1/6

Here is the original AI image. Not an example of ancient #Tartarian architecture, but a computer generated artwork piece (and not a great one either), but #pseudoarchaeology will continue to use these images to keep "just asking questions." And platforms like this support it 4/4

AI is only going to make #pseudoarchaeology worse. Quick Google Lens reverse image shows easily identified this image as AI 1/4

A new Toolkit for Finds: Pottery resource has been launched by CIfA & its @CifaFinds Group: https://t.co/sUOU4gYIkU. It outlines the recommended approach to all aspects of #pottery work, and is designed to complement the Toolkit for Specialist Reporting.

Wish the @BBCNews article made mention of the fact that detecting on land without permission of the landowner / rights holder is illegal, and that finds should be recorded with @findsorguk. Always seek permission, #recordyourfinds and don't damage the land!
