Visited TiohtiΓ :ke for @DeepLabCut workshop hosted by AI Resident & marmoset researcher @Jiayue__Yang Played with SuperBird on many birds my husband & I saw while birding there eg KΓ©ntsiakΕ/kentsiakΓ‘riaβas. Parks & islands there have deep Indigenous histories needing justice.

Labestication may affect sexual behaviour & nervous system. We need more diverse taxa and genera in the wild for constructing the brain. Many considerations are required to assess the feasibility and ethics of neuroscience studies in minimally captive free-behaving wildlife.

Collaborating with Peter Dijkstraβs lab, we developed a DeepLabCut pose estimation model for Astatotilapia burtoni communities. From the multi-animal model, we also manually assembled poses for two individual cichlids separated by a divider and calculated their kinematics.

Difficult to label our low-resolution videos of gonadal-independent rodent sexual behaviour. We augmented labelled high-resolution frames so the DeepLabCut model works on out-of-domain low-resolution videos. Then trained SimBA classifiers for rodent sexual behaviours.

Sex diversity is observed across history, culture & tree of life. Its emergent & multidimensional properties are largely ignored by science, due to constructionism in part from cisheteropatriarchal ideologies. Also, science is only one of many partial ways of constructing sex.

#Tech4Wildlife AI largely excludes underserved populations. I hope to improve this in part by teaching these communities AI tools. Students without computational backgrounds complete a @DeepLabCut project to study animal behaviour including wildlife https://t.co/5bLRFBrA4k
