And if any men are reading this: Be EMOTIONALLY available for your bros. Let them know that you're there for them in a non-judgemental way, no matter what they are going through - because trust me - they are going through a lot, just like you, me, and everyone else.

The point is, you alone cannot solve this problem. It has to be done from the ground up, when boys and girls are young. We need to teach BOTH boys and girls that it's perfectly fine to have emotions, it's okay to cry when you're sad and it's okay to express your feelings.

It understandably overwhelms the receiver and it's termed as "trauma dumping". In many cases, their girlfriend/partner leaves these men because they can't handle the sheer volume. Now men think that their original mindset was better and they remain stoic: The cycle continues.

Even if they are hesitant to do so, they believe their partner and take a chance. But where the woman was expecting a dollop of emotions, instead out comes a HUGE flood which they've been suppressing for years, sometimes decades.

Result: They grow up thinking that being men means being stoic. Which isn't healthy at all as years of emotional stress keeps building up inside them. Then comes along a partner (like you above) who tells them that it's okay to open up.

Lots of men will have a best friend for 20 years and will have zero ideas of the emotional stress he's been dealing with. And vice versa because they are never told that this is something they can do. If someone tries it, other boys either make fun of him or ridicule him.
