And just empirically, I have never met anyone working on an exchange that calls it a "CLOB" - Binance, Coinbase, HL, dydx, etc., none of them describe what they built that way.

Context for why I think this term is obsolete and an oxymoron in crypto.
It's funny that for some reason, people in crypto use the term CLOB to talk about exchanges - CLOB DEX sounds especially like an oxymoron, is it central or decentralized or somehow both?. This term is obsolete even in TradFi, I think it was used in the 90s and early 2000s. I did.

I was planning to block anyone who still uses the term CLOB, but turns out that even folks whose content I really like such as @pumatheuma and @blknoiz06 do!.
Purpose built blockspace will dominate the CLOB wars. It uniquely enables:.• customized sequencing rules.• ultra-low latency tx confirmations (think milliseconds).• extreme throughput that's an order of magnitude more than what's available on shared environments.

It's interesting that some of the ideas behind FTX, if properly executed in a decentralized way, actually do work - for example, you can think of Lighter's LLP public pool as an "internal market maker" but there are fundamental differences. - LLP can.
Irony is not lost on me that we moved from FTX+Alameda internal market maker black box is bad, dexes are the future, to the most successful dex models being run by. internal market maker black box
