The Ministry of State Security helped Beijing evolve from noisy hacking to the most persistent cyber adversary facing U.S. networks. Does the U.S. cybersecurity posture measure up against the threat? I argue no — and outline how to impose higher costs on PRC cyber ops.⬇️

Although the US has much of what KSA wants to realize its advanced tech ambitions, Riyadh will likely resist pressure from Washington to force outright alignment with America's ecosystem given its maturing relations with Beijing and effort to balance between the two powers.

For semiconductors, the kingdom seeks to expand legacy chip fabrication to diversify its supply chains while maturing its R&D ecosystem with a focus on fabless designs. The US should partner with 🇸🇦 on both goals without surrendering its edge in leading-edge chip design.

The landscape of smart cities, however, reveals a more mixed picture with significant 🇨🇳 projects across the kingdom. Beijing's willingness to offer surveillance tech for KSA's authoritarian state has emerged as a troubling competitive AI advantage--one the US shouldn't emulate.
