The outpouring of support by the food and wine community for a young girl with a rare cancer has been astonishing. Here are my thoughts on it. Anything you can do to help spread the word (and bid on amazing auction items) is so appreciated.

I'm spending #givingtuesday focused on a young girl named Rayas who is fighting for her life. Together with an incredible community of friends in the wine and food world, we've put together an amazing silent auction fundraiser. Check it out: https://t.co/oLALm3i8d3

Here's the annual reminder: DON'T STRESS 'bout wine for the Thanksgiving meal. Pair the wine with the PEOPLE, not the food. Open a bunch of things you think people will enjoy drinking. Full stop. Trying to "pair" wines with the maelstrom of this meal's flavors is a fool's errand.

So sad to hear of the passing of Emmanuel Reynaud today. He was one of the world's most gifted winemakers. I will always remember my visit with him.

Joel Peterson sharing a compact history of California viticulture packed with interesting facts. A new one for me: in 1880, 80% of CA vines were Mission/PaĂs. By 1890, 80% were non-Mission. A sea change. Old Vine Conference 2025.

New Zealand is known for Sauvignon Blanc, of course, and increasingly for Pinot Noir, but little gets mentioned of its OTHER red grape. But the Syrahs of New Zealand are special because of their heritage, in addition to being delicious. Here's the story.

New Zealand Syrah is much less well-known than New Zealand Pinot Noir, but it deserves attention, as it continues to get better and better.
