Wow. Big news being reported this AM: Chateau Lafleur is leaving the Pomerol appellation. With the 2025 vintage, they will be a Vin de France. "Our...practices are, in fact, evolving much faster than what is authorized in our Appellations of Origine system." Change or die, folks.

With grapes having recently gone through veraison, this is one the most sensitive times for winegrapes when it comes to the threat of smoke taint. Pray to the wind gods, if you're so inclined.

Nail-biting to watch the Pickett fire burning above Calistoga, 2300 acres, 0% contained. Both the fire and its smoke are headed east over Pope Valley, which is generally good news for the growers in Napa Valley. Air quality in Calistoga is better than it is in Oakland this morn.
