Although we don’t do this for the gift cards, it was nice to once again experience tangible thank-you cards as opposed to emails.

Grade 10 science students even went on real-world field trips (e.g. @RipleysAquaCA, Mountsberg Maple Syrup Farm) for more authentic learning experiences!

Grade 10 science students got to learn from a variety of guest speakers such as organ transplant recipients, biomimicry specialists, scientists from universities, and more.

Grade 10 science students designed and built optical devices such as pinhole cameras, 3D illusion devices, and smartphone projectors.

Grade 10 science students demonstrated learning in creative ways such as doodle videos to explain concepts, board games, and other forms of artistic expressions.

Grade 12 chemistry students explained boring atomic history in creative ways such as games they coded and story books.

Grade 12 chemistry students had the opportunity to learn from a variety of experts in the field via guest lecturers from labs and workplaces (e.g. pharmacists, researchers).

Grade 12 chemistry students used their knowledge of organic chemistry to bake apple pies without apples. For once chemistry class made the halls smell good!

Grade 12 chemistry students used their knowledge of redox reactions to create art!

Grade 12 chemistry students participated in lab days at UTM state of the art labs and performed back titrations on antacids!

While difficult at first, my first year back in the classroom (after 2 years of virtual) was a success. Let’s review the year of experiences in grade 12 chemistry and grade 10 science at Thomas A Blakelock @TABTigerLife (a thread).

Building connections and relationships can be challenging in a virtual school. However, with care, respect, passion, and enthusiasm, @HDSB_VSS makes it work! As the old saying goes, the proof is in the Jalebi! Thank you to my chemistry student for the sweet treat!
