It's really simple, vaccinate your kids. If you're not getting your kids their shots, keep them the fuck away from me and mine because I don't want my children dying of some shit we eradicated during the Victorian Era because some woman in your play group told you a thing.
I genuinely feel for Elizabeth Warren’s supporters. She has had one of the most competent and well put together campaigns that’s been balanced by passion and plans but, and I hate to say it, if she were a man she’d be in the top three in a walk.
Dear White People; Gonna need y'all to sit this one out. Black folks who have been black for long enough can identify the difference between an awkward ally and a virulent racist. We good.
I told my wife there was a new Beyonce and Jay-Z album. She told me she had to run an errand, and now she's been circling the block in the car for the past 30 minutes like I can't see her.
Y'all notice how all of your "libertarian" friends on social media ain't been saying shit? Like, they should be anti-cop because freedom. But they just can't bring themselves to acknowledge that black lives matter because being a libertarian is just cool ranch white supremacy.
The reason why this Gabrielle Union story hits chord with so many black folks is because the workplace that's being described is one where we've all worked. Where they hire you to bring some diversity to the table and then hate you for actually trying to make them diversify.
At the end of the day, the Titanic Missing Billionaire Submarine story is a perfect distillation of 21st Century capitalism: A small group of very rich people assume a clearly irresponsible risk. It goes predictably wrong. Scores more in public resources are used to save them...
Imagine the uproar if a group of black Midshipmen were throwing up gang signs and we’re gonna need that same energy with these folks making the white power hand gesture. This is a sign of the times.
Hey, white people who had faith in Mueller and feel like the system failed you; this is how black people feel all the time knowing that cops can shoot us and get away with it. Welcome to the club. Now go do something about it.
The fact that white people can believe in QAnon but not believe in systemic racism is an indictment on the failures of the American educational system.
I'm seeing Green Party trending and let's just say it loud and clear now; Fuck that shit. Anyone telling you to vote for the Green Party has the luxury of living under Trump for another four years. Voting Green is a form of privilege.
Learning how, after a Black girl won a spelling bee in 1908, they canceled spelling bees for 20 years reminds me how, after electing a Black president in 2008, conservatives are ready to completely chuck democracy if that’s what it takes to keep it from happening again.
What's happening with Twitter's revenue and what happened to Chris Licht at CNN are both examples of why trying to mainstream MAGA is a losing game. No, the country isn't divided 50/50 between MAGA Republicans and everyone else. The far right is just that. An extreme...
"I mistook my taser for my gun" is really a striking endorsement of not giving patrol officers guns in the first place. I mean, if your pharmacist couldn't tell an aspirin from fentanyl, it's not just something you accept as a occupational hazard.
Gen Xers are literally holding this whole thing together and no one's paying attention to us because no one ever paid attention to us while we held everything together.
RIP my mentions after this, but I'm gonna say it.
@AOC
is kinda the perfect encapsulation of the Millennial ethos in the idea that showing up with an opinion should be rewarded and that somehow, people with experience are an impediment to their entitlement. Don't @ me.
Maybe I'm connecting the dots wrong, but here's what I got...
-Russia is losing the war in Ukraine
-Mass protests are roiling Iran
-Bolsonaro loses reelection in Brazil
-2020 Trump-backed election deniers lose en masse in this fall's US elections
-Protests breaking out in China
So we're clear; the spouse of the second person in the line of succession to the presidency was beaten in his home with a hammer last night and not one elected Republican leader has stepped forward to say that it's time to tone down the rhetoric and denounce political violence.
Black People: "People are literally being killed by law enforcement"
The NRA: "BLUE LIVES MATTER!"
Law Enforcement: "People are literally being killed by assault rifles."
The NRA: "FUCK THE POLICE!"
Instead of placing the blame on an organization that defends everyone's
#2A
rights, maybe people should take a hard look at the number of failures by the FBI and local law enforcement agencies, or does that not fit your agenda?

Spoken like someone who's never been black and had to prove they just paid for the shit they bought when walking out of a store. I got stopped walking out of a CVS with some Zantac and a ginger ale that they watched me pay for because the machine chimed.
I used to think people were wealthy based on their car. I was wrong. Truly wealthy people are the ones that buy the seafood that isn't on sale at Whole Foods. I saw a lady today in line with $46 worth of sea bass and I had to stop myself from robbing her family in the parking lot
Bernie Sanders spent 40 years in public service and accomplished nothing of note. But yet, we're supposed to believe that, after not doing shit for 4 decades, he's the guy who can magically revolutionize Washington? His track record tells us what we'll get. Nothing.
Hey, black people. Ad guy here. Can y'all do me a solid and stop perpetuating the social media trope that we somehow gave Popeye's $25million in "free" advertising. That's not exactly accurate and it doesn't reflect the reality of how marketing communications work.
Just as an FYI; if you're confronting a black man about anything and he starts wildly gesticulating and needlessly emoting, please know he did that shit. I literally did the same thing last week after my wife accused me of eating my daughter's lunch sandwich(es).
@SecPompeo
@nytimes
Hi, Mike. I'm Black. My last name is a reminder to me that my family was once owned by someone else. America's foundation was slavery. We built this country. You will not erase that. If you cannot contend with the past, get out of the way.
It’s always unsettling to think of all the people who confuse being poor with being a criminal. Having a broken tail light or expired license plate isn’t a crime, it’s an inconvenience of poverty that can get you harassed by police.
But, these aren't reasonable times and we're going to continue to worship billionaires as the virtuous outcome out capitalism rather than realize that their massive accumulation of wealth is as harmful to us broadly as it's been to these men specifically. FIN
Three years ago, Black Twitter used this platform to galvanize a movement following the murder of George Floyd demanding an overdue and necessary racial reckoning in America. Three years and $44B later, Elon Musk is making sure that never happens again...
Privatize the "thrill" of "discovery" and offer it to the monied few who have the resources and access to both assume large amounts of risk while simultaneously disavowing said risk when making decisions. Because they assume that, if it does go bad, someone will save them...
Kentucky Fried Chicken still ain't told you what the eleven herbs and spices are, but you still eat that shit. So why y'all getting all funny-style over getting vaccinated?
I wish there was a meal plan for adults like there is for college students. I’d happily pay $500 a month for three swipes a day at some grown up version of a dining hall. Someone hook me up with a VC so we can make this happen.
I don't know about y'all, but it looks like the cornerstones of potential authoritarianism aren't having a good year. Not that it's a clean sweep for the alternative, but it appears that the seemingly insurmountable forces of strongman politics are taking big hits globally...
Only difference in this story than the usual "titans of business saved by the public good" story is that the CEO here might actually be held ultimately accountable for his failure. In reasonable times, this would be an excellent parable for the hubris of the wealthy...
Kaepernick: *Kneels to protest police brutality*
Republicans: "HE HATES THE TROOPS!"
Insurrectionists: *Beat police officers and murder one with a fire extenguisher*
Republicans: "Now's the time for unity and for cooler heads to prevail."
@bennyjohnson
Putting a kid in a Pride t-shirt is grooming them to be gay about as much as putting them in a sailor suit is grooming them to be a Navy SEAL. Stop it. There are gay parents who have kids. There are gay kids who have parents. You're not protecting kids, you're projecting hate.
My 9yo is the best. Took the girls to the park today and the way that she looks after her little sister and explained to other children about her difference was amazing. “She just wants to play, she just doesn’t play like us because she has autism. But that’s okay...” Awesome.
The idea that ~30% of Americans that are sympathetic to or supportive of right wing conspiracy theories and anti-democratic policy ideas isn't a sign of a burgeoning movement. It means the mainstream media has failed to properly articulate the MAGA threat by legitimizing it...
Most people don't want Donald Trump to be president again. Most people don't want to use social media platforms where they feel like they'll be exposed to or attacked by intolerance and hate speech. But they keep framing the far right as a difference of opinion, not a threat...
Man. America is about to find out about the weirdest muthafuckas in the African American community; the Black Hebrew Israelites. If you wanna know how crazy they are, one time one of them came in my barbershop and the 5%ers wouldn’t even talk to him because he was so batshit.
Licht and Musk made the same bad bet; that catering to elements of the far right as mainstream equals would generate some untapped stream of engagement and revenue. Licht lost his job. Musk lost $30B and his reputation. Both done in by advertisers who didn't like the risk...
At the end of the day, trying to mainstream MAGA and failing on these media platforms is exactly why the Republicans are careening headlong into a massive 2024 loss if they don't ditch the extreme right. The risk that comes with embracing them doesn't match the reward. FIN.
But I do feel more bullish about the possibility of rolling back the tide of anti-liberalism, at least in the US. We'll see though. I could be wrong, but I hope I'm not. FIN
None of these are a reason to smile just yet but it is cause for some less than cautious optimism. Even in places where the authoritarians are "winning," their grip on long term power is tenuous. Especially if they're client states to regimes that are being weakened by protest...
This is also why these Bud Light and Target "boycotts" are short-lived victories for niche movements. Just like people started to ignore CNN when it lurched right, people are growing tired of Twitter and the right wing characters driving the narrative here...
Say what you want about Kamala Harris, but my little girl who was born in 2012 has only known a Democratic Party that elected a Black president, nominated the first woman on a major ticket, and has now tapped a Black woman for Vice President. Her world will be bigger than mine.
Unpopular opinion time; Democrats aren’t going to win over a single new vote with student loan forgiveness. Not at $10K. Not at $50K. Doesn’t matter how much Biden forgives, it won’t change the math. The people saying that $10K isn’t enough weren’t reliable votes anyway.
Shout out to all the not black parents out there buying their kids Black Panther costumes for Halloween. Now y'all know how my momma felt when I begged for the Dukes of Hazzard lunchbox back in '83. Also, I'm giving all Wakandan trick-or-treaters full size candy bars.
This was all preventable until some people on the left decided that Hillary Clinton was going to win anyway and staked out contrarian positions to get cable news bookings and book deals. Face it, your "progressive" voices were (AND STILL ARE) in it for the money...
Folks, maybe it's time to admit something to ourselves; the Biden campaign is pretty good. They haven't gone off message. They haven't chased down wild Trump statements. And since the "You ain't Black" incident, there hasn't been a major gaffe. It's almost like they're better.
@jdmiles11
@cuzzinjeff
Hello. Son of a black woman here. Let me just say that, outside of a courtroom, that response would usually be followed by a request for a switch/belt/shoe/flyswatter and would have ended with a "What I tell you would happen if you did that?" If no one got whooped, I'm upset.
If this happens, the best thank you gift that Democrats can give Black voters is to make the John Lewis Voting Rights Act the first major, non-pandemic related, piece of legislation.
A reminder; the Republican Party has only won the popular vote once since 1992. On top of that, over the past decade, Democrats have won more votes than Republicans at almost 2:1. The GOP is a white minority party that only holds power by suppressing votes. That’s the story.
I’ll never understand how White people can show up at a protest armed to the teeth and complain about oppression and tyranny while living in an America where black folks are afraid to wear masks for safety out of fear that we might mistakenly get shot by police. I need a break.
Not gonna lie. I miss a whole lotta shit about pre-COVID life, but I'm not willing to go into full on coronavirus denialism and risk the health and safety of me and mine to reopen a goddamn thing. Only in America do people decide a pandemic is over because they're bored now.
Pray for my family y'all. My daughter has volunteered to take home her first grade class's hamster for the holiday break. Please hold us up in your meditations and let's all hope that we don't kill this little muthafucka.
Y’all really trying to tell me that a 78 year old former hippie who’s never held down a non-government job and has 40 years of experience with ZERO accomplishments is gonna get you Medicare for All, free college, and a Green New Deal when he can’t even be an effective Senator?
@AdamSerwer
This country is one giant 10th grade American Lit class where nobody reads and we’re just waiting for someone else to give us the summary or wait until the movie comes out. We are truly a nation of C students.
If you spent 2016 talking about how much Hillary Clinton didn't earn your vote and that we could afford to lose an election because she wasn't a true progressive, I really don't care to hear your thoughts on the Supreme Court's voting rights decision today. You made it possible.
@RepJeffDuncan
@MLB
Folks, THIS is authoritarianism. When state actors threaten private enterprise with targeted sanctions specifically for their business because they made a decision to spend their money elsewhere, that's an affront to free enterprise. This is hypocrisy of the highest order.
During the Brett Kavanaugh hearings, I had to explain to my 6 year-old daughter what sexual assault was and that, despite it being a bad thing, the man who did it was still gonna get the job. That’s a lot harder than, “Sometimes men fall in love with men and women love women.”
@jelani9
I know it's cool to hate the Clintons now, but Bill's speech in 2012 basically made the case for Barack Obama's reelection. Also, Hillary Clinton's place in history is secured and it's hard to see how you don't have the woman who won the popular vote last time speak this time.
I really wish the media spent this morning talking to Black voters who helped Joe Biden win the election rather than talking to Trump voters who can’t accept the fact that he lost. Why are we still validating their stupidity by treating it like a legitimate political view?
@yashar
Expect to see more and more of this type of foolishness as more states legalize recreational marijuana usage. The only people I know who could go for a fried barbecue chicken quesadilla pepperoni pizza with ranch dip right now are high as fuck.
If you've spent the past 48 hours more angry at the fact that Joe Biden said "white supremacy" than you did over the past four years actually witnessing it as policy, chances are, you're a white supremacist.
@ShaneGoldmacher
@yashar
200,000 people die because Trump didn't want the numbers to look bad so his administration didn't ramp up testing. 200,000 people die because the Trump administration took a backseat and left states to fend for themselves. This is an abject failure of leadership.
@nytimes
When the president calls the media the enemy of the people, those who follow him and his message will use this as an opportunity to attack the enemy. Y’all were complicit in this by trying to normalize Trump from the start.
Ah. James Carville is trending and people born after 1992 are trying to dunk on him. I love this website, man. People get to come here and use their feelings and opinions as substitutes for experience and evidence. Don't ever change, Twitter.
@JoshuaPotash
@chrislhayes
So we have a full on white supremacist insurgency forming under the guise of a pandemic response protest complete with armed gunmen in a state capitol and children in blackface based on a Trump tweet, but we "need answers" from Joe Biden about Tara Reade.
@jemelehill
That's the plan. Ice Cube and others are plants to actively encourage Black men to not vote. Black women got Michelle Obama and Beyonce leading the charge. Black men get ol' dusty ass rappers showing up at the 11th hour encouraging us to be stupid like them. It's frustrating.
Whenever your argument is, "
@ShaunKing
isn't black..." what you're really saying is, "I, as a racist, cannot rebut Mr. King's statement and, since I'm a racist, I'm just gonna impugn his blackness to help me not feel so small."
Cornel West is now running at the Green Party candidate for President because Cornel West wants Donald Trump back in the White House. Why? Because even though Trump is bad for everyone generally, he's good for West's left wing grievance politics and thus, West's pockets...
When we look at what Twitter has become over the past 9 months compared to what it was in preceding years, it's clear that this platform was too good at amplifying the voices of minority groups and making the broader public aware of the existence of marginalized communities...
What the fuck, Disney? Somehow we can have fitty-lebem Batmans, but we can't give another Black actor a shot at being a hero to Black kids? This is fucking dumb and it's going to lose them money while killing a franchise before it could blow up.
But for now, take it for what it's worth that black folks were the engine behind one of the best PR/earned media plays I've seen in a while and we didn't give anything away. We just showed how we can define a market and influence culture. That's good.
Bernie doesn’t support reparations because his brand of populism is based on white working class voters as the primary beneficiaries of the government’s largess. This is why populism doesn’t work for black folks.
I feel like I’ve crossed a line in personal wealth now that I no longer argue about toppings for the family pizza and just order an extra one for myself with anchovies and mushrooms. Momma, I made it.
@StevenTDennis
Meanwhile, these folks were ready to hand over no-strings-attached cash to the airlines, cruise lines, and Boeing. Why is there no discussion of moral hazard there?
