Well yes, but all of Mamdani’s life choices thus far wouldn’t actually be tolerated by overbearing desi parents. What do you mean you want to study Africana Studies? What do you mean you want to go to Egypt to study Arabic?? Etc.

So exciting to see one of my fave Indian brands (Cord Studio) being stocked at Le Bon Marche. Ripe time for Indian designs and designers to go global…. https://t.co/R639c9OPqd

Note also as more Indians study abroad we already see these schools becoming pipelines to Ivy’s. E.g., @anmolm_ and I are always shocked at the DPS RKP + UPenn contribution to the Indian ecosystem. (Though I’m a product of both, this is not a biased view 😊)

This is v true. We are really beginning (1) to see network effects form around schools (2) some of these network effects play out internationally. Folks used to look out for IIT tags; now add DPS RKP to the mix.

Quite a hot mic moment on CCTV in Beijing today as Putin and Xi, both 72 years old, are caught casually talking about living to 150 and maybe forever thanks to organ transplants. (As picked up by Bloomberg.)

QTing this only because it’s yet another example of how our contemporary understanding of Gandhi flattens him so completely and make a total mockery of what his idea of ahimsa was…. He was, well, extremely complicated.

An additional awesome aspect of all good anthro work is its use of historical research to contextualize research topics. Eg in Nadal's book, one finds a hugely surprising argument from Mohandas Gandhi's life re. the killing of street dogs. 1926 essay here: https://t.co/D2BJa5z8z6

there are a lot of interesting jinn in middle eastern folklore but one of my favorite is the ten-headed yemeni jinn who would ambush people and challenge them to a poetry battle. I kinda love that his sole aspiration was to be the soundcloud rapper of his day

The fact that most people don’t know this says a lot about the sad state of our history. Particularly, the simplistic way in which we learn our own colonial history. (None of this is to take anything away from @SamDalrymple123 of course).

I didn't realise that lands from Muscat and Oman, the UAE, all the way to Burma were once part of the British Indian Empire. I'd always thought of India's partition as only involving India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Shattered Lands by @SamDalrymple123 is a must-read for history
