Congrates to all who get into GSoC this time.
Don't be disheartened if you are not selected this time. It is easy to say but just take this as a way to improve. I know exactly how it feels! 💚
I have made npm package "activity-calendar-react". A simple library that provides a component to render user's yearly activity on a calendar.

- Choose organization
- Join community
- Get started with an issue (good first issue)
- Learn and explore the possible solution.
- Raise the PR
- Resolve the conflicts
- Get it merged
🎉🎉
PS: The first time it might take around 1-2 weeks!
I was stuck in a data migration issue that was causing errors in production. I had a meet with my GSoC mentor, I told him "sorry I was not aware of this testcase, I should have done this edge case in previous migration", he simply replied "That's how we learn, right!".
😄🔥🔥

- Your interest.
- Your familiarity with the codebase & organization.

Activity Calendar React is a simple library that provides a component to render user's yearly activity on a grid calendar.
Package:

Atleast you should know the basics and how javascript function works. Also try to learn ECMA before react. It will help you a lot in react.
Try to make projects using vanilla.
If you want to integrate multiple select options in your form:
- Jquery-dependent library
1. Select2
2. Selectize.js
- No jquery dependency
1. Slim Select
2. Tom-select
3. Choices-js
Now when you should start?
- Right now is the best time to start contribution.
- As GSoC 23 is announced, organization usually have good first issues open for new contributors to come and start there contributions.
- This will help you understand the codebase, org and community.
Important points regarding contributions:
- Quality over Quantity contributions.
- Try to grab comparatively hard issue than before, it will make your learning and contribution graph exponential.
- Always ready to help other contributors.
- Participate in meetings and threads!
..
What is GSoC?
In simple words, google summer of code is a program that provides an opportunity for Open Source Contributions in Open source Organizations. It is not an internship at Google, or anything working with Google.

Cold mails.
- Send mails to HRs, Co-founders, EMs. You can also reach out to HR's & EM's in LinkedIn, Twitter.
- Out of all the interviews I have been appeared, I got it through cold reachout only.
- Make a decent template and subject.
- Use mail scrapper(70% works).
I can fully relate to this picture.
// 2 days back I was thinking of a task as not possible.
while(migration!=passed)
{
debug;
StackOverflow;
try;
console.log("fail, try again!");
}
// But today!
console.log("Done!");
@pradumna_saraf
- got to know about other developers' ways to solve the problem. It enhances the code quality.
- work on a large codebase. Similar experience as to work in big tech.
- open environment.
- no office politics.
- communication.
- Freedom to choose an organization to our own taste.
