(she/her) PhD graduate of the @CohenMechGroup at MIT. Learning from biological tissues, thinking about science policy and 🚴🏻🧗🏻🤸

Seeing another piece of my PhD in print is a nice reminder of how much work I put in over the last few years. As always, I couldn't have done it alone and this paper was a group effort with so many wonderful lab mates in the @CohenMechGroup.

Chapter 3 of my thesis is now published in @SocietyExpMech! Quantifying how the mechanical properties of tissues change over time & with disease progression is instrumental for understanding health. We observed variations in stiffness & fracture in gelatin & liver using VCCE.

I'm pleased to share that the second paper of my PhD has been published in Soft Matter is now available online at If you'd like to see me present this, and the rest of my work from the @CohenMechGroup, I will be defending my thesis *this Wednesday*.

The reminder I needed today.
No proposal or manuscript is ever perfect, but to be effective, it does eventually need to be finished. Nothing we submit will ever be as good as it *could* be and just recognizing that can be an important step forward. Perfection is not the goal. Finished is the goal.

The @SocietyExpMech 2024 Annual Conference is almost here! I'm especially excited about the new Empower Hour networking event that I helped to organize happening on Wednesday evening. Women in the SEM community, check your email for details and see you there!

Every time I get a flier in the mail I check to see if I know anyone on it. Today I did. It was me 😅. Consider this your registration reminder for @SocietyExpMech annual 2024! Looking forward to June

-Why is the conference background lighting color of choice purple?.-When presenting images of stained cells, can we all agree to invert our colors? Red on black is not a functional color scheme on a projector. Wearing my @MITCommLab fellow hat here and I am dying.

-I most enjoy talks that teach me about the fundamentals of a field, and how the authors are challenging them with new findings. S/o to @kaitpb for doing this today and inspiring the realization.-Re: above, I did not do this in my own talk but hope everyone enjoyed it anyways!.

Taking the photo means you don’t have to be in it😁.
Field trip time! @SocEngScience here we come. @CarlosMPortela, we are adopting your group if you miss the flight. Don’t worry, we will take good care of them 😉
