i think it's critical to note that in a strength-based culture, dany's khalasar do not see drogo's raping and enslaving as proof of his strength and thus aren't truly loyal to him, but they do see dany's magic and her surviving the fire as proof of her strength.
on the other hand, dany frees drogo's slaves and asks her khalasar to be her family, offering her hand and heart to them. they are "hers, as they were never drogo's" because she proves her strength by being unburnt and unhurt, cradling three dragons.

Once again I’m not telling anyone to like Barristan, I’m simply pointing out that people refuse to see he has a redemption arc because it is spurred on by Dany. Also Davos is pretty universally loved even if he doesn’t have Mannis level stans 😭
this myth that the fanbase would worship barristan if he only swore his sword to stannis as if there isn’t a character who stannis’ story is actually told through and his fanbase is nowhere to be seen even as we speak
