We have unwittingly trained Penny, our Golden Retriever, to expect a treat every evening after we put the dishwasher on. The upside of this is that if I ever forget to actually put the dishwasher on she is very quick to let me know.

The evening emphasized the importance of amplifying marginalized voices and addressing gaps in our historical understanding. It was a powerful reminder of the need for inclusive and accurate narratives. Grateful for the opportunity to engage in such a meaningful discussion.

Fiona discussed the ongoing suppression of Aboriginal voices in historical narratives, highlighting the significant barriers to acknowledging their contributions. Her insights into the QLD Aboriginals Protection Act and Aboriginal Frontier War Memorials were quite impactful.

I attended a lecture at the University of Queensland this evening with Prof. Fiona Foley and Prof. Stephanie Gilbert (. Their discussion on "Speaking from Within" was deeply challenging and eye-opening. #UQ.

Frequent recharging makes for shorter, more pleasant stops (e.g. grab a coffee and go). And they make it a non-event if a charging station is busy / out of order. You just move onto the next one.

This weekend my family and I travelled ~1000km (~620 miles) in our full electric car (from Brisbane to Armidale and back). The trip was smooth sailing, and having done a couple of long journeys in our EV - my biggest advice is this: plan to recharge the car frequently.

I would have loved to be in a world where we could have known on day 1 how to best support our child!.#UQGivingDay #BeAChangeMaker.

What we did not know was that they were autistic. We would not learn this until they were over 2 years old. When we did learn this, it helped us hugely as parents to understand how to raise them better and understand their unique perspective.

When my eldest child was born, they were tested on day of birth for hearing. This was a huge advance in medical science, and I was thrilled to know that their hearing was sound.

When I was born, I had profound hearing loss. This was not detected. It took years before I was checked for speech delay, and it was discovered that I had hearing loss. (Fun fact: this is why I have a funky accent to this day).

Every time I visit QBI, I am inspired by the stories I hear. Last time I was at QBI I met with a researcher who was looking into methods to detect autism earlier than we currently can. Specifically, they want to be able to identify autism at birth.

I have been giving to QBI for 5 years now and have had the opportunity to meet with many of the researchers at this institution. They are working hard to make breakthroughs in primary science that will practically improve the lives of many people.

October is Giving month at Microsoft. Oct 18th is also Giving day for my favorite cause: the Queensland Brain Institute. I want to share a story. But first, I would love it if y'all would consider giving to QBI: #UQGivingDay #BeAChangeMaker.
