Last October, UP MSI concluded the annual week-long integrated fieldwork for MS students at the MSI Bolinao Marine Laboratory (BML), Pangasinan. Students were trained in the use of Niskin bottles, CTD devices, plankton nets, and more.

Pawikan Patrol just released their 10,000th hatchling—a hawksbill! With its pointed beak and patterned shell, it helps keep coral reefs healthy by feeding on sponges. Critically endangered hawksbills face threats from wildlife trade, habitat loss, and bycatch.

C. rolani may be tiny, but don’t underestimate them—their venoms are packed with hundreds of peptides to hunt and defend themselves. Intrigued by this, Dr. Arturo Lluisma, and his team identified 103 venom peptide sequences, with two resembling similar to human insulin.
