@JW_edsolutions @MrZachG One of the few formal evaluations of MTSS in the US found that it actually made things worse in twice as many schools as it made things better: https://t.co/N8hW1GQwgS. My hunch is the crucial variable is the quality of teachers delivering Tier 2 and Tier 3.

This report describes the adoption of RtI practices in a large, multistate sample of schools, examines the implementation of tiered intervention services for students at risk of reading difficulty,...

Yes! @AndyPierrotti dug into this in his Reading Reset. Itās disappointing to see it still listed as training site!!
Reading Recovery does still list @GeorgiaStateU as a training site:

This isnāt just neglect ā itās educational malpractice. We know how to fix this. Itās time to demand real change.
Stop punishing kids for our failure to teach them to read. Federal law (IDEA) requires districts to identify dyslexiaāyet too many children, especially those furthest from opportunity, get mislabeled as ābehavior problems.ā This is educational malpractice! @KJWinEducation

āPeople who ostensibly care deeply about the most vulnerable children in our society wouldnāt feel compelled to make the startling argument that when millions of them are unable to read at the level expected for their grade levelāor age levelāthat doesnāt constitute a crisis.ā

A must read from @The74 āAdopting a new curriculum is only a first step. Real change is like training for a marathon: buying the right gear doesnāt build endurance. Success comes from commitment, coaching, time and deliberate practice.ā

As a parent of child with an IEP, I want to say thank you! šš¼
Too often, IEPs are written in a way to just check the legal boxes that end up lowering expectations. This year, I'm making an effort to focus my meetings on discussions about HOW we will get the student there--what intense scaffolded instruction is needed.

Making the shift to the Science of Reading takes real COURAGE. š Teachers must break the cycle & swim upstreamāfor kids. š£ļø Parents must ditch groupthink & speak up. Thereās nothing more important than fighting for childrenās right to read. @reading_league #LiteracyMatters
"Donāt sell out kids for acceptance. Fear of being disliked stops many from questioning school policies/practices or working across divides. Careerism & cowardice as priorities hurt kids. Be the adult kids needālion or dove, just not a herd-follower using approval as a pacifier.

GA is making moves!! You guys have some strong advocates + legislators committed to making the change! Way to go @gopscott! @MissyPurcell @DDGA13 @Veggievangelist @untilallcanread
@Parents4RJ Georgia lawmakers banned 3-cueing in the 2025 legislative session. Our strong Early Literacy Act (screening, coaches, etc.) was passed in 2023 as was creation of GA Council on Literacy to ensure state leaders remain engaged. It stopped short of a ban but we got it done this year.

āThe soft bigotry of low expectations.ā We have high expectations for our kids āBlack, Dyslexic, English learnersāand schools should too. Not expecting them to read? Thatās not compassion, thatās bigotry. Weāre chasing excellence for every child. @KJWinEducation
"They're at 60%, we're at 20%ā60 is not the standard, 100% should be the standard." How do low expectations impact achievement? Is the highest performing group really the bar? Ep. 2 of "Literacy Now, Together" drops 7/16šļø@KJWinEducation @brett_tingley @KarinMariaPsyD @Parents4RJ
