@JW_edsolutions @MrZachG One of the few formal evaluations of MTSS in the US found that it actually made things worse in twice as many schools as it made things better: https://t.co/N8hW1GQwgS. My hunch is the crucial variable is the quality of teachers delivering Tier 2 and Tier 3.

Yes! @AndyPierrotti dug into this in his Reading Reset. It’s disappointing to see it still listed as training site!!

This isn’t just neglect — it’s educational malpractice. We know how to fix this. It’s time to demand real change.

Stop punishing kids for our failure to teach them to read. Federal law (IDEA) requires districts to identify dyslexia—yet too many children, especially those furthest from opportunity, get mislabeled as ā€œbehavior problems.ā€ This is educational malpractice! @KJWinEducation

ā€œPeople who ostensibly care deeply about the most vulnerable children in our society wouldn’t feel compelled to make the startling argument that when millions of them are unable to read at the level expected for their grade level—or age level—that doesn’t constitute a crisis.ā€

A must read from @The74 ā€œAdopting a new curriculum is only a first step. Real change is like training for a marathon: buying the right gear doesn’t build endurance. Success comes from commitment, coaching, time and deliberate practice.ā€

Too often, IEPs are written in a way to just check the legal boxes that end up lowering expectations. This year, I'm making an effort to focus my meetings on discussions about HOW we will get the student there--what intense scaffolded instruction is needed.

Making the shift to the Science of Reading takes real COURAGE. šŸ“– Teachers must break the cycle & swim upstream—for kids. šŸ—£ļø Parents must ditch groupthink & speak up. There’s nothing more important than fighting for children’s right to read. @reading_league #LiteracyMatters

@Parents4RJ Georgia lawmakers banned 3-cueing in the 2025 legislative session. Our strong Early Literacy Act (screening, coaches, etc.) was passed in 2023 as was creation of GA Council on Literacy to ensure state leaders remain engaged. It stopped short of a ban but we got it done this year.

ā€œThe soft bigotry of low expectations.ā€ We have high expectations for our kids —Black, Dyslexic, English learners—and schools should too. Not expecting them to read? That’s not compassion, that’s bigotry. We’re chasing excellence for every child. @KJWinEducation
