Through her @uncchemistry Ph.D. research, Charlotte Montgomery tackled one of clean energy's most complex problems. At @UNC, she investigated how tiny tweaks to molecules can result in massive changes, helping to produce fuel with fewer byproducts.

At @unccs, Tianlong Chen builds accurate and efficient machine learning systems to integrate #AI in health care. His current project uses AI to improve the diagnosis of some autoimmune diseases. He joined @UNC Research to discuss his work: @TianlongChen4

Hans Paerl, @UNC scientist and @UNC_EMES professor, helped create FerryMon, a program that uses existing passenger ferries to gather data about harmful algal blooms in NC's sounds and estuaries. The system provides real-time water quality data.

Congrats to @UNC chemist Alex Zhukhovitskiy for receiving a 2025 Hettleman Prize 🎉. The prestigious award honors exceptional early-career faculty. Zhukhovitskiy's work at @uncchemistry addresses pressing challenges in materials science and sustainability.

#UNC sparked Ariayana Harrell's passion for sociology. Through the College's highly-ranked sociology program and the Carolina Covenant, Harrell conducted research as an undergraduate. When it came time to choose a Ph.D. program, @UNC was her first choice:

#UNC alumna Violeta Gonzalez Toro ’24 was inspired by the @UNCECL class “Literature of War” to research how veterans might use reading as a path for healing. Her work investigated how literature can help prompt complex, important conversations.

#UNC student sports statistician Shane Faberman created a new metric to determine which @NBA coaches get the most out of their players. The @uncstor and @UNCSDSS double major says the metric can help separate a coach's influence from players' talent.

In @uncchemistry, an immersive class is merging synthetic chemistry and art conservation. Through a partnership with @AcklandArt, Tar Heels are able to synthesize blue pigments in the lab and then explore their historical significance at UNC's art museum.

As a Ph.D. student at @UNC, psychologist Jieni Zhou ’24 studied how positive experiences in romantic relationships impact well-being. Her #research looked closely at how positive emotions are "crucial building blocks for flourishing relationships.".

Seven members of the Carolina community were honored for serving @UNC and North Carolina for 50 years 🏅. A special congrats to the College's Ann Matthysse (50 years), William Barney (50 years, honored posthumously) and Steven Rosefielde (55 years).
