The UE Policy page has been updated with the resolutions passed at last week's 78th UE Convention: UE policy is set by rank-and-file delegates to our national convention in the form of resolutions that are discussed and debated on the convention floor.

They will also stay on their existing insurance, after a fight when the company pushed to switch their plan. One of the biggest wins was limiting overtime work on Fridays. This win came after the members wore “eight hour Fridays” shirts to negotiations.

Members of Local 329 ratified a three-year contract with Kenedy Valve on May 31. The contract includes the second-highest raises they have seen — a 15 percent wage increase over the life of the contract. Read more here:

At UE’s 65th national convention in 2000, Hargrove told UE members, “We must also never forget that we're not just defending the interests of our members and their families but the broader community that we live in… (5/8).

An obituary published by Unifor noted that Hargrove fought not only for better wages and working conditions but also for social justice issues like public health care, retirement security, equity, and fair trade. (4/8).

UE Canada, which by the 1980s was completely independent of UE in the USA, merged with the CAW in the 1990s, and in 2013 the CAW merged with another Canadian union to form Unifor, the country's largest private-sector union and a close UE ally. (3/8).

From 1992 until his retirement in 2008, Hargrove was National President of the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW), which split from the UAW in the 1980s in opposition to the UAW's embrace of concession bargaining. (2/8).
